The unique project showcases TobyMac at his best-mixing pop, rock, soul, hip-hop and urban flavors into irresistible songs with a distinctive Christmas spirit. Featuring memorable collaborations with the industry’s finest such as Owl City, Sixpence None the Richer’s Leigh Nash and rising star Jamie Grace, the album’s track listing also spotlights performances and songs from TobyMac’s long-time touring band, Diverse City.

“I just tried to think outside the box,” commented TobyMac on the creative process behind the project. “It’s difficult at first to imagine some of these songs with a modern beat, but I think Christmas is about celebration and come on, on the inside everyone wants to dance. It has a bit of everything- six songs are my artistry: an eclectic blend of Christmas classics and originals. The other seven tracks are my amazing band’s (Diverse City) individual artistic efforts. I love it.”

Christmas in Diverse City also features the No. 1 radio hit “Christmas This Year,” which was released as a single track last year and features the talents of Leigh Nash.

In addition to his holiday release, this fall TobyMac will embark on a tour unlike any he has done before. TobyMac will get personal with his fans and reveal a different side of his music on “UNPLUGGED A Night of Stories and Songs” tour. Joined by special guest Jamie Grace for this “storyteller’s night,” TobyMac will open up about the inspiration behind the songs of his 10 year solo career and more. See full list of tour dates below.

Fall Tour to follow...

Shonlock Says Goodbye to TobyMac’s Diverse City and ‘Hello’ to a Solo Career with a Debut Album, Fall Tour and Another Hit Single

When Shonlock’s full-length debut release NEVERODDOREVEN (Arrow Records/Universal Music Christian Group) was released on June 21, 2011, the artist, previously best known for his ongoing gig as part of TobyMac’s Diverse City, stepped up to a mic that was all his own. With the success of his first two radio singles and an increased demand for touring, Shonlock will depart from TobyMac’s touring outfit at the end of this month to devote his full attention to his own artistry.

Shonlock’s debut single, “Something In Your Eyes,” became one of this year’s biggest radio hits, holding the #1 spot on Billboard’s CHR Chart, where it remained for seven straight weeks. The follow-up single, “Hello,” is currently #5 and climbing, and a music video will be shot in the coming weeks.

With a lengthy tour schedule for the remainder of 2011, Shonlock will next hit the road on this fall’s “Outta Space Love Tour” with Group 1 Crew, Rachael Lampa and Rapture Ruckus. He spent the summer performing at major festivals, including Creation East, Creation West, Ignite Festival, Heaven Fest and Rock the Desert.

“My band and I have been invited to a lot of festivals, and the crowds have been amazing,” says Shonlock. “It feels good to be able to share what God has given me with such large and attentive audiences. It’s fun to see the reactions people have when they finally put the face with the songs. I love it!”

The excitement about one of Christian music’s most promising new artists extends to the media, where the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. “The acclaimed choreographer (Arrested Development, Aaliyah) turned member of TobyMac’s Diverse City Band is even more talented as a solo artist, dropping one of the rap/rock scene’s most compelling concoctions this year,” said Andy Argyrakis for television network GMC’s Web site.

“If one had to name the freshest urban Christian music album so far in 2011, this one’s a lock,” said mega-site Crosswalk.com. According to TheBlackGospelBlog.com, “Shonlock may well be the breakout Christian artist of the year,” while JesusFreakHideout.com declared the songs to be “extremely creative and some of the best musical artistry that I’ve heard in a while.”

“At the end of the day, I just want to fulfill the plans that God has for my life,” says Shonlock. “I want to use everything He’s put in me to point people to Him regardless of music genre or ethnicity, and remain focused on the things that bring us together rather than the things that keep us apart.”

SHONLOCK STEPS OUT FROM TOBYMAC’S DIVERSE CITY, FOLLOWS #1 HIT WITH THE RELEASE OF DEBUT ALBUM ‘NEVERODDOREVEN’ ON JUNE 21

On the heels of the chart-topping #1 radio hit “Something In Your Eyes,” Arrow Records recording artist Shonlock will release his debut album NEVERODDOREVEN (Universal Music Christian Group) on June 21, 2011.

Best known to Christian music fans as a member of TobyMac’s Diverse City, Shonlock has been busy preparing to step out into a spotlight of his own. He spent much of 2010 on tour with TobyMac and Skillet for their record-breaking Awake Tonight Tour. And later this year, Shonlock will hit the road with Group 1 Crew. But what may appear to be an overnight success story has been a long time coming.

Shonlock’s career began when he was plucked out of his Chicago high school by R. Kelly’s management team, to join R&B powerhouse Aaliyah and hip-hop pioneers Arrested Development on tour as a chorographer and dancer. From there, his name spread throughout the industry, resulting in a call from Christian hip-hop duo GRITS.

“At first, I was using a lot of my gifts and talents for the wrong reasons, but came to a whole new outlook on life after I met Verbs, who was supporting Grits at the time,” recalls Shonlock. “One day after going over some choreography he presented the Gospel to me, which was really refreshing because it was coming from somebody who understood my background and had similar interests in music. I had been going to church when I was younger, but never really grasped it, so to have it presented in a form that I could relate to and at an age when I could understand it became life changing.”

Alongside that spiritual renewal came a chance to work with like-minded stars such as Nicole C. Mullen and The Katinas, eventually catching the eyes and ears of multi-platinum artist TobyMac. Besides offering his chorography to TobyMac’s Diverse City, Shonlock became part of Diverse City as a guest vocalist/performer, a role that he maintains to this day.

While touring with TobyMac, Shonlock demonstrated that he was more than just a dancer and choreographer with a self-released CD that moved over 15,000 copies without the assistance of retail distribution. His ability to craft a song brought songwriting opportunities with touring partner TobyMac, as well as artists like Mandisa, Verbs and Kierra “Kiki” Sheard. His pop/rock/hip-hop stylings caught the attention of Arrow Records, resulting in a partnership that spawned the Where Never Begins EP in late 2010, followed by the new full-length album NEVERODDOREVEN.

“There’s a play on the title visually where it spells the same phrase forward or backwards,” says Shonlock. “The message is all about my relationship with God, and when you’re walking with Him, I never find it odd when amazing things happen. But on the flipside with the ultimate sacrifice of His son, I could never get even, which makes me forever indebted to Him.”

Much like his mentor TobyMac, Shonlock desires to create a bridge for all audiences while breaking down radio formats and spiritual stereotypes. “My goal is to be a blend for the pop, hip-hop and rock loving crowd without ever wanting to get boxed into a certain category,” he explains. “I’m not eyeing a particular marketplace, group or clique. I’m just going to do whatever I can to make sure the people that need to hear this message get a chance. If the message is truth and the music is good quality music, people will be drawn to it no matter what genre.”

Red Rolls With Momentum
The twice GRAMMY ® nominated rock band RED is adding additional strength to the band’s already highly impactful market presence, in part propelled by the current No. 1 scored by its multi-format song “Faceless,” and the announcement that its third studio album, UNTIL WE HAVE FACES, has surpassed the100,000 sales mark in just 10 short weeks. br> UNTIL WE HAVE FACES debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart following its release on February 1. Further, the album remained in the Top 5 on both iTunes’ Overall Album and Rock Album charts its entire street week.
RED’s second single, “Feed The Machine” is making a highly connective impact at radio and sales levels in the wake of the band’s heavy emphasis of national media presence and brand momentum. Eight weeks into the campaign at radio “Feed TheMachine” is currently posting at No. 20 Monitored—Active Rock and No. 20 Indicator—Active Rock. Filming of the video for “Feed The Machine” is planned for late April. Making recent RED history, “Faceless” achieved the high watermark of becoming the rock outfit’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian Rock radio chart (CHR) and its 11th No. 1 career single to date—10 of which have been logged as consecutive No. 1 successes. The song brought the twice GRAMMY ® nominated band to major national mainstream attention when they performed it live on TBS’s “Conan” (2/8) as part of a strong UNTIL WE HAVE FACES street week campaign that also included a performance of “Not Alone” on NBC’s “TheTonight Show With Jay Leno” (2/16). RED continues to aggressively hit the road, announcing its next run with Hinder starting on May 8 in Lexington, Ky.

Sarah Jaffe Hitting The Road
One of 2010’s breakout stars Sarah Jaffe will be hitting the road this summer on two consecutive tours of the US. She kicks things off with fellow Texans the Old 97’s at the Bluebird Theatre in Denver on May 26th and will end this run on June 11th when they play a set at the Blue Light in Lubbock, TX. Ten days later Sarah will be joining up with another Texas favorite – Denton’s Centro-Matic – for a two week plus run, kicking things off in Nashville, TN at the Basement. Sarah Jaffe became one of the most talked about artists of 2010 following the release of her debut album Suburban Nature in May 2010 which earned her accolades from NPR, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Interview, and American Songwriter among others. The album also landed her on numerous year-end lists including USA Today’s Pop Candy, Paste Magazine and Amazon and found her single “Clementine” making in roads at AAA Radio. She also spent a majority of the year on the road on several high profile tours including a European tour with Midlake, two US tours – one with Norah Jones and one with Lou Barlow and several runs on her own as well as a co-headlining fall tour with Ben Weaver. Due to the overwhelming response to Suburban Nature, Kirtland Records released Sarah’s debut EP Even Born Again on March 8th with new cover art as well as the Working for a Nuclear Free City Remix of “Two Intangibles Can’t Be Had” – originally only released digitally. It was also a nice way to get something additional out to fans before this year’s SXSW festival where Sarah played the indie-tastemaker Paste party as well as KUT’s showcase which was picked up by NPR who also dubbed Sarah a “must-see” artist at this year’s festival. The New York Times picked Sarah as one of “Eight local acts that could make an impact at South by Southwest” and wrote “Ms. Jaffe is celebrated for how comfortably she conveys palpable vulnerability.” Now Jaffe is hitting the road again with some new songs up her sleeve that definitely find Sarah taking exciting risks with her music. Some of the songs will make it onto a new DVD release called The Way Sound Leaves a Room that is due out in the Fall 2011 and will also feature live videos from her Wyly performance and some bonus material. Also her single “Clementine” will be featured in the season finale of the CW’s hit show “One Tree Hill.” And to get a taste of how she blew away SXSW goers this year, check out Sarah performing “Clementine” at Paste Magazine’s showcase.

Jesus’ True Heritage Revealed In New Book
Delving deep into Jewish history, author Joe Amaral explores societal mores and cultural traditions in his new book Understanding Jesus: Cultural Insights into the Words and Deeds of Christ. Modern-day Christians often bring their own presuppositions and assumptions to the reading of the Bible, not realizing how deeply their understanding of Christ’s life and teachings is affected by a 21st-century worldview. In Understanding Jesus, Amaral closes the gap created by geographical distance and over two thousand years of history. Using a chronological approach to the life of Christ, he guides the reader through significant events such as Jesus’ birth, baptism and crucifixion, pointing out illuminating details that that the Western mind would normally miss. “Jesus wasn’t from Montana, nor was He a Canadian—He was a Jew living in first century Israel, living a first century lifestyle,” writes Amaral. “That realization has forever impacted the way I see Jesus and the way in which I now perceive the Gospels.” Amaral’s premise is that to understand Jesus, we must understand the time and place in which he was born, the background from which he drew his illustrations, and the audience he spoke to. In Understanding Jesus, Amaral draws back the curtain on a way of life that existed during the reign of the Caesars, and in doing so, reveals truths about the way we live more than two thousand years later, half a world away.

The band got to meet fans old and new, some stating that they had thought they’d never get a chance to see X-Sinner live and were very happy they did. Daniel Band and X-Sinner were both in top form delivering the classic rock they are both known for as well as new material.
TobyMac News
Recently, BMI hosted their Annual Christian Awards ceremony at their offices in downtown Nashville and for the third year in a row Forefront’s multi-platinum selling artist TobyMac took home the award of the night “Songwriter of the Year,” making it his fourth win in this category. He shared the honor with Rodney Griffin and Bo Rinehart who also took home awards for the same title. Additionally, the award-winning artist’s hit songs “Get Back Up” and “City On Our Knees ”were recognized for being two of the Top 25 most performed songs on Christian radio over the past year. In addition to being one of Nashville’s top songwriters, TobyMac continues to mentor songwriters and artists such as Jamie Grace, through Gotee Records and is excited for what she is bringing to the music industry: “Jamie Grace writes, sings and plays her own music. She has a style that can’t be put into a typical label box—a dash of reggae, a dash of folk, a dash of hip hop,” says TobyMac. “I’ve said it a million times, ‘If we’re ever going to be a shining city on a hill, we have to be diverse city.’ Jamie Grace is part of that diverse city. She’s such a natural, beautiful next step for our industry.” The new female vocalist’s latest single “Hold Me,” also featuring TobyMac, was recently given the spotlight at iTunes ® as the Discovery Download. Listeners welcomed Grace with open arms as over 188,000 downloads were received.

Visible School Announces Name Change
Memphis-based Visible School today announced it has changed its name to Visible Music College with a comprehensive rebranding effort. The 10-year-old music and worship arts college is the vision of president Ken Steorts, who left a career as a founding member of the Christian rock band Skillet to start Visible School. Founded in 2000, the now Visible Music College is the only of its kind in the world, boasting an accredited three-year bachelor’s degree and one-year certificate programs in music, music business, worship leadership and music production. “Our decision to rebrand after 10 years came after much discussion, prayer and planning, and we are all thrilled with the new direction and feel that Visible Music College offers a straightforward name and a clearer picture of who we are,” Steorts said. “With 90 percent of our students coming from outside Memphis, historically from 49 states and 13 countries, we know that Visible Music College will continue to grow and serve those students who are pursuing music on many levels – from performance to worship leadership.”
2011 has been a year of changes for Visible Music College, including breaking ground on renovations to its new Downtown Memphis home at 200 Madison Ave., in which the college will move later this year. “Our new urban campus will bring our college to a new level of visibility, allowing our students to be involved in the heart of the Memphis music scene and beyond,” Steorts added. “The name change reflects that visibility as a college.” Visible Music College in Memphis, Tenn., is the vision of founding president Ken Steorts. Started in 2000, Visible Music College is an independent music and worship arts college enrolling more than 100 students per year. Visible Music College educates students interested in careers as musicians, technicians, music business professionals and in music ministry. The accredited college offers a three-year bachelor’s degree and a one-year certificate program, both of which provide an integrated academic, vocational and mentorship-based approach rooted in Christian beliefs. The college plans to move to its new Downtown Memphis campus in fall 2011.

Strike First Presents: Ark Of The Covenant
Strike First is happy to welcome a new band to the family. Ark of the Covenant play hard hitting, undiluted hardcore, and will be releasing their debut EP with Strike First this spring. Connecticut seems to be a breeding ground for enduring hardcore bands, and Strike First’s newest band Ark of the Covenant has come out swinging with that infamous CT brand of intensity and drive. Musically the band’s influences span the heavy genres, but the NY and Boston hardcore scenes have the greatest impact on the band’s writing as evidenced by Ark’s signature breakdown barrage and two-step beats. Ark of the Covenant’s debut EP Separation was recorded at Silver Bullet Studio (Shai Hulud, Wrench in the Works) and will be released on Strike First Records May 10, 2011. Pre-order your copy now!

In addition to being one of Nashville’s top songwriters, TobyMac continues to mentor songwriters and artists such as Jamie Grace, through Gotee Records and is excited for what she is bringing to the music industry:

“Jamie Grace writes, sings and plays her own music. She’s such a natural, beautiful next step for our industry.”

Known for his dedication to the craft, in commenting on the nominations to The Tennessean, TobyMac stated, “These are the people that know you. They go to your shows, and they’re around the studio when you’re making your records. I’ve been doing this for a minute, and the last thing I want to do is (phone) it in. I want to be passionate about single hi-hat, kick drum, bassline, guitar riff, melody and lyric on the record…it tells me that the guys around me can see that I do that. That’s quite an honor.”
