X-Men 1.5

A DC Comics fan like me should not be allowed to review this movie. Having said that, here is a fantastic journey in the literal sense of the word. Superheroes quite often exemplify messianic qualities that touch the heart of the viewer, stirring up the strong emotions of protectiveness and the longing to be a hero. The created universe in this setting, featuring the villain Magneto, caters to the concept of people fearing strangers and those unlike them instead of reaching out in compassion. While the writers have, in a sense, stooped down to write in the dirt in order to get the morals across, the special effects and drawn-out drama pace the movie well. The story behind this release, X-Men 1.5, however, are the tons of extras (over 5 hours’ worth!). Disc 2 begins with Director Bryan Singer adding a personal touch by introducing the extras prior to the menu screen appearing. While the navigation of all the menu’s branches requires work, all the interviews and highlights really dig into both the story and world of the X-Men, plus the challenges and art of film-making.
