*sniff* - how we miss the thrill of new episodes on Sunday nights...

If you’re a fan of this show, you should probably own this boxset. Granted, $129.99 is a lot of cash to lay out for a single entertainment package, but still...it’s that cool. Now, if you’re not a fan of this show, you should probably own this boxset as well. First of all, the simple aspect of having an entire season of one television series is a cool thing all by itself. Without commercials, an hour episode flies by in 45 minutes; and the fact that you can go at your own pace through the season is great! Prior to digging into this 17-hour extravaganza, I was not a fan of the show. Now I am! This modern day Twilight Zone does a great job of stretching the imagination, and asks some great questions that seekers of truth should be asking (Like, “Is there a plan, a reason, a purpose to our existence?”) The ability to absorb the larger picture of the X-Files is a nice aspect this boxset affords. This was most exemplified in the loose ends tied up in the “Two Fathers” and “One Son” episodes. The one drawback to a season-ending episode is that it often finishes as a big “to be continued” cliff hanger, which this one did. Some fantastic highlights include the super memorable scenes in “The Unnatural” episode, with its “all the baseball greats were aliens” theme; the bizarre Groundhog Day type deja-vu episode for Agent Mulder in “Monday;” and the hilarious switcheroo he pulled with actor Michael McKean in the two back-to-back “Dreamland” episodes.
