This Christian movie company has successfully proven that it’s not strictly an end-times prophetic film company a la Left Behind. Director/Writer Barry Berman (Benny & Joon) tells a heart-grabbing story by tackling the tensions behind racial, family, and spiritual relations. Some of the commentary audio comes from a telephone transmission, which is odd and detracting, but still offers (insightful) information regarding the film. Casting Burt Reynolds in the lead role of Jewish shopkeeper Eli Zeal, who finds himself somewhat kidnapped by a single black mother whose son shoots him in a holdup, works in a way that relies more on facial expression than the actual dialogue. Seeing Orlando Jones as a mentally deficient adult is ironic due to his slapstick roles in 7-Up commercials and Evolution. As expected in a film by this company, the thread of redemption is what holds the movie together and, while not Oscar winning material, certainly qualifies as a relaxed heartwarming "Hallmark Moment" type family movie.
