Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The

104 DVD Texas Chainsaw Massacre.jpg

I’m just an old lady, but I forgot how terrible this movie was. Yes, it’s gory. Yes, it was one of the first classic "slasher" movies; but it’s just downright bad. The acting is bad. I could act more scared than both of those girls put together. Now, I’m one that loves to watch blood, teeth, eyes, and hair spill all over the rink at a hockey match; but somehow this bloody arm cutting with a razor; torso plunging a wheelchair-bound paraplegic with a chainsaw; and impaling that young woman on a meat hook... Well, it’s downright disgusting. If there were ever a good definition for the word "gratuitous," this movie would be it. Now, these young actors didn’t take the Lord’s Name in vain (too often) during this screenplay, but the way one couple ran off to swim together insinuates a scenario that is shameful to even hint at. And that butt-munch in the wheelchair just displays the most immature attitudes this side of Bob Larson on the radio. The only good I can see coming from this DVD is me telling your impressionable young minds that this movie – while crafted (in the vein of the God forsaken picture The Blair Witch Project) to appear like it was based on a true story – was not true at all. I was born and raised most of my life in rural Texas and, believe you me, if some demon possessed madman had been running around with a chainsaw back in the 70s, I would have heard about it (and put that poor fella in his place, too).

I have found another good use for this DVD, though. The backside of the packaging is designed to look like a package of ground beef; and it serves me well in my refrigerator to re-supply my household with fresh beef every week before I go shopping. [Pioneer / Melba Jackson]

shut up lady

Melba is incorrect. The Lord's name was taken in vain in this movie ("that's the last GD hitchiker I'll ever pick up").

Well, of all the mistakes I could have made. I'm so sorry Durandal, I did miss that God awful profanity uttered by the van's driver. Now I'm glad he got butchered up real good!
:?)

You do know that this movie was loosely based on the story of Ed Gein, right? And, by the way, the violence in this movie is anything but gratuitous. Gratuitous is defined as "unnecessary or unwarranted; unjustified" (www.dictionary.com). I would go so far as to say that when you are telling a story about an insane family of inbreeders with one son that likes to hack people up, violence will rule the day. All things considered, there is really very little violence in TCM. Most of it is implied. But even so, to complain about the violence in a movie entitled TEXAS CHAINSAW MASACRE is a bit naive, no? If you don't care for the violence, I suggest you watch something else. For those that enjoy a bit of nastiness, TCM is a classic.

Wait...I thought The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on a true story...but it sounds really odd that they're re-releasing it again and even have a new version of it out. I mean, the families would sue you'd think...so this movie ISN'T based on actual events and there's really NO SUCH THING as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

Hi
I know melba is a fake, and it really does not matter!! I do agree with her ,i do not think it s healthy to watch to much violence on film. The attitude "hey its just film" sucks.Look around you- there s not to much LOVE out there on the streets any more.I live in Norway. Oslo used be a peaceful place, Then came people from countries where terrorist actions, seem to be as normal as butter on a slice of bread.Hey i think all people are worth a lot.Just think about this Christ died for us all. I do have a hard time dealing with the way muslims behave thou. All their Pride thang. If you look around in the world-All wars are in muslim countries.R E L I G I O N = WAR
As a christian i find it hard to take that some people find it amusing to watch violence on film.

I m not from Texas, maybe that excuse good enough

God bless you!!
Tanx for a cool mag

I V A R

God bless you

u review a film and then end up goin in to every thing with a toothpick....look its a film...a bad one at that but so what live and let live...yes there is way to much hate out on your streeets ...but who knows what its to do with!!....why do 10 guys beat up 1 little lady(my mate) coss of the way she looks????? as 4 tcm i laughed all the way thro the origanl it was bad!!

I am so embarrassed! I honestly believed that this movie was based on an actual event. What a silly, gullable Aussie girl I am!!!

Dude, you so missed the mark!! Texas Chainsaw leaves you tainted and shocked, with a big smile on your face!! isn't that what we lok for when we watch a movie, for its effect on us. The new one will be even better!!!, oh and grandpa sucking blood off the finger: PRICELESS.

Go back to www.landoverbaptist.org and spread the super-spirro bug there!! Praise the Lord!

First off, this flick is not as "gory" in the graphic violence sense as you make it out to be. I could even give you a rundown of the on-screen gore.

- Some shots of decaying corpses.

- The Hitchhiker cutting his hand, although we don't really see the blade slicing, just the result.

- Franklin's arm getting cut by the hitchhiker.

- Blood spraying while Franlkin gets cut up by the chainsaw, but no actual shots of Franklin getting cut up.

- Sally getting her finger cut.

- The hitchiker getting hit by a truck, again in a wide shot and obviously a dummy getting hit,

- Sally covered in blood from the aforementioned truck hit.

- Leatherface getting cut in the leg by his chainsaw.

The rest of the violence is implied or non graphic, like the girl hung on the meathook or the guy getting pummled with the slegehammer.

As for the true story thing, I think it's already been said that it was loosely based on Ed Gein, "The Butcher of Plainsfield." And calling the violence gratuitous is nuts. It's a story about A GROUP OF PSYCHO CANNIBALS!!! Maybe you feel that nothing warrents the telling of a tale such as this, but it hardly makes the violence of the story gratuitous. I've seen WB cartoons with more gratuitous violence than this horror classic.

i loved this movie. i saw it after i saw the new one and i thought it was incredible. its obvious that people have different tastes in movies and what is "appropriate" or "gratuitous" but that is no grounds to shame the movie. i thought it was brilliant for something that would probably be considered a well made B film. i loved the fact that the whole movie felt like something out of a nightmare. certain things happened twice, just like things are sometimes repeated in nightmares. consider the girl jumping out of the second story window, twice. one thing astonishes me, how on earth did this little girls vocal chords sustain that incredible amount of screaming. a little side note, if you have the supermachiner record, there is a track that has audio from this movie on it throughout the entire song. its quite great.

Well, as far as the movie goes, I enjoyed myself through out the whole thing. Personally, I do not think that anyone typing in here to critisize the movie actually experienced the event taking place. It could be a fact, it couldn't be, no one knows. The fact is, Mr Hooper (the director of the film) did a fantastic job on the flick. I'm not too much interested in seeing a bunch of gore, and brains beeing splattered everwhere, I think it's gross. Yes the couple whom run off and wanting to take a swim, was a big hint on giving the viewers that something bad was going to eventually happen, but what scared me was this, when the male walked into the door, and leather face (Ed Gein) opened up the sliding door, and clocked the man in the head with a hammer, knocking him out instantly. That gave a real shock and thrill to the movie, as well as the viewers. I mean, don't anyone tell me, that didn't scare the living day lights out of you. It's known that the movie isn't actually based on real events, and that Ed Gein only killed 2 woman, and the rest of the corpses police found were just bones from recently deceased bodies coming from grave yards that he dug up himself. The fact reminds alot of the movie Physco. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the movie, I own it as well, and everyone get this: IT TOOK ME 4 MONTHS TO ACTUALLY FIND IT ON DVD..AND WHY? BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS SOLD OUT OF THEM BECAUSE THE VIEWERS LOVED THE MOVIE SO MUCH!....The new one is also a fantastic movie as well, got me jumpin' out of my chair!

i dont know what to say dudes..?!?!
this movie true or false.
shit, i just love the movie.

haha, i didnt see the movie but i wonder how he got his mask like that

I Think that his movie is the scariet thing that i have ever seen b4. And that grandma should be quite adn that she couldnt act better than a retarded boy. She should be doin normal grandma stuff like baking cookies not babbling on about how gory movies are.

perhaps the "based on true events' is just as bullshit as the blair witch project being a true story
i mean its a old formula
freak people out by making them believe its REAL

Its a formula that makes money, because it works!

hey u need to watch ur mouth cause that was a true story ok just cause u thin it's not just cause u lived in texas IT DONT MATTER it matters what part of texas ur in and the texas chainsaw massacre was in TRAVIS TEXAS 1973 august 18 ok so shutup and get the truth

hmmmm.... Film był taki sobie !!! Ale jeśli był na faktach, to w stanach są niezłe za przeproszeniem POJEBY!!! Same psychole!!! And for everybody in USA!!! Be afraid be very afraid!!! oh my god!!! POLAND RULEZ!!! PEACE FOR ALL!!! :):)

Was the story true or not?? I realy want to know!!!

True or Not....I'm not driving through Travis, Texas, and i live 3 and a half miles from there....I thought the movie was Awesome...I love Scary Movies, and that kept me on the edge of my seat...

Actually I am from tx and my family has been here for generations and the movie to us was based on something that happened in Harper tx where this family killed some people and sold the meat to a barbeque place.I never saw any proof that it was true and it seems like all the little abandoned towns around tx have a scary story w/them.But then maybe they are true and that is why they are abandoned and believe me there are a lot of empty towns around here.

I recently purchased the new Texas Chainsaw Masacre film. I saw it in theatres once before, but couldn't really follow it directly because of the obnoxious black people who were sitting behind me. So I got a chance to actually watch it when I purchased the movie. I think it was a good movie, many parts in which were tampered with from the original, because definately a shocker for the '04. I'm sure Mr. Hooper wouldn't appreicate people remaking and daluting his film!

You guys are IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you think this place should have facts.(duh).

YOU SUCK, CHEW, AND SWALLOW!

i THINK THAT YOU GUYS sHOULD POST FACTS. tHAT WOULD MAKE aRIELLE, AISHA AND MYSELF ALOT HAPPIER WITH THIS WEBSITE. I THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS WAY GORY THOUGH.

so did this actually happen? I mean I was left with more questions than answers....so how many people died was it just the five or did they find all those body parts down there too, I mean there was a lot of ears, teeth, eyeballs and other assorted body parts in the basment...what im saying is I need answers why was it just closed if two police officers were killed??? it seems odd to me...someone help me

Well I think its a very good version of the original one, and maybe it was true. But I guess we never now.
