Terminator, The

Never was the phrase "I'll be back" more appropriate when T2 took over movie theaters several years ago. The Terminator was the beginning of the battle story between man and machines, who both resorted to time travel to try and win. MGM made a fresh master from a hi-definition transfer, so you don't really feel like you're watching a 1984 cinematic release, and they loaded up the DVD with deleted scenes, two documentaries, storyboards, trailers, and more. They didn't quite match the extras of the sequel's double disc special edition, but it's mostly enjoyable. The steamy sex scene where the future John Conner is conceived presents a squeamish moment where the fast-forward feature can be put to good use. Most of the "blood & guts" are primarily due to the makeup of Schwarzenegger's cyborg character, getting one of his eyes gouged out (thus the need for the famous wrap-around sunglasses). Overall, The Terminator fan gets a full portion. The casual appreciator can at least get the movie on tv at least once every other month, and might pass on this package. [MGM / Doug Van Pelt]
