SCTV Volume 3 (Season Four)
A five- DVD set of classic Canadian comedy from The Second City Comedy Troupe. Spoofing every type of TV programming imaginable, SCTV introduced us to some unforgettable characters like Johnny LaRue (the late John Candy); Count Floyd (Joe Flaherty); Edith Prickley (Andrea Martin) and Bob & Doug McKenzie (Rick Moranis & Dave Thomas). Rounding out the cast in this season: Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, and the introduction of Martin Short.
Over 12 hours of programs featuring Monster Chiller Horror Theatre, The Days of The Week, The Great White North, and The Fishin’ Musician which featured musical guests: Carl Perkins, Dave Edmunds, Hall & Oates and Jimmy Buffett.
Based in the fictional town of Melonville, SCTV was run by the wheelchair riding Guy Caballero (Flaherty) with Edith Prickley (Martin) as program manager. This Emmy nominated show really sped up the careers of many a Second City comic. People like John Candy, Martin Short and Eugene Levy were made household names from being apart of SCTV.
The bonus features are informative for hardcore fans of the show. Chats with the producers and cast as well as a touching interview with a young John Candy at his home in rural Ontario.
A sixth “bonus” disc is packed full of “Classic Moments from The Second City Stage” bits over the past 30 years. A ton of unknown comics who would later become very well known are featured. Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Harold Ramis, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Bonnie Hunt, Tim Meadows, Rachel Dratch and Tina Fey.
