Phone Booth

This is a very unique movie that goes out on an edge that could basically be labelled a soliloquy. Beginning with they musical lyrics of, "Operator, get me Jesus on the line..." the audience gets clued in that its not about to get what it expects. Like Memento and Pi, this is a very weird movie that pokes and prods in curious places. Colin Farrell hogs the stage as an uppity publicist in Manhattan is eerily slimy. What a great spoofing charicature! Even though it could fairly be asked whether or not the audience’s interest can be held when it’s almost entirely set in a phone booth (Farrell’s character is threatened by an assasin that he’ll be shot if he leaves the phone booth. A stressful drama plays out that touches on confession and cleansing. Very interesting, but probably too tiring for the average audience. [Fox Video / Doug Van Pelt]
