Order, The
Sometimes I wish I could travel to India, Africa, or Haiti just so I could see demon possessed folks. Admit it, you’ve thought something similar, wishing you could “see” the supernatural in a more tangible way. Enter another supernatural thriller into a culture that’s fascinated with demons and angels. This film was originally called Sin Eater, I believe (judging by the markers in the special features), which aptly but grossly describes the storyline of a secret order of priests who offer absolution in an interesting and decidedly unorthodox way. But the cool part of the movie is hearing these men of the cloth uttering the Name of Jesus with authority (and watching the demons obey). Of course, there’s a few lines and scenes that are off-kilter, like the inane utterance that, “Knowledge is the enemy of faith.” But there’s also a gripping warning: “Sometimes, when you look into the abyss, the abyss looks back at you.” [Fox Video / Doug Van Pelt]
