Love Comes Softly

Did you say, “Little House on the Prairie?” Well, since this is a Janette Oke novel put to film, that’s what you’re getting – a nice “Hallmark Moment” about a family out on the wild frontier in the “early settlers” era. Pure and clean, one slapstick moment comes when “marriage by convenience” husband Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff) pops in unexpectedly during his spouse’s bathtime. He stumbles backwards and lands on the hot stove, frying his buns for a second, then lurching forward to the large wooden table, knocking himself on the forehead. It’s mostly slow-moving, but enough fast moments are sprinkled throughout to make it watchable. In the end the viewer is given a romantic tale with the right amount of tension (and the recommended daily allowance of cheese).
