King David

Hollywood took a high dollar stab at an Old Testament movieback in 1985, casting Richard Gere as King Dave. The thought was exciting, but the result is disappointing. You'd think Hollywood would know better than to repeat the old Shakespearean English and cinematic style of Cecil B. Demille's The Ten Commandments, but that's exactly what they did here. The daytime battle scenes are pretty intense (pre-Braveheart), complete with gory blood and guts. As expected they took the storyline with Bathsheba and reproduced it faithfully (yikes), which means nude scenes.

Richard Gere takes a stab at King David, trying hard to muster the charisma, passion, emotion, and zeal of this Priest/King and Murderer/Adulter. An amazing story that could have been so much better.

Sigh.
