Here’s a made-for-Harrison-Ford role that pulls off the nearly impossible – no cusswords! Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t pack the high voltage energy that its plot promises – a Soviet nuclear sub that experiences near mutiny and missile launching off the coast of North America. It’s good, but not great. Fascinating, however, was the behind-the-scenes look at the re-creation of the gargantuan sets. Placed within the context of atheistic Communism, it’s interesting how spirituality rears up a couple times. Two examples are a scene where one good Communist spots a cross necklace: “Icons? They’re forbidden!” And then Captain Alexei Vostrikov (Ford) blesses a soldier about to enter a toxic zone with, “May God be with you.” Interesting how dependence upon God becomes second nature when life itself is threatened. What the fruit are you talking about?! I watched this movie, and I saw no nude scenes whatsoever. I found it to be way too long, and the plot to the story didn't even happen until an hour and a half into it. Skip this movie, unless you want to fall asleep in a matter of two minutes.
