JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG

Old movies suck. They feature crappy, stale music. Their 2-dimensional moving scenery behind a still car in driving scenes and other effects are laughable. Old movies just aren't any good. Warranted criticism aside, this conclusion is flat-out wrong. This epic (3 hour, 9 minute) movie was moving and powerful. Spencer Tracy plays Judge Dan Haywood, who is sent to Nuremberg to preside over the tribunal for the reigning judges during Nazi Germany's reign of terror. Whether or not these judges, who passed decrees and rulings that allowed sterilization and murder happen to political dissidents and non-Aryan races, are responsible for the crimes carried out was a heavy weight on this judge's shoulders. We see men of character at various times boldly stand up and deliver the truth in the face of resistance, which is just marvelous -- especially considering the topic of human life. This DVD goes beyond the brilliant movie by offering up three nice featurettes with interviews from the actors. This one would be easy to miss, but is worth searching out and sitting through.
