The folks at Big Idea, while enormously successful on a creative and marketing level, were agonizingly slow at converting to and creating for the dvd format. One can understand that phenemenal growth sometimes causes a narrowing of the focus and only the top priorities getting that intense attention, but it was frustrating to see the incredible potential back in 1998 and not see the company’s efforts in this area for many years later. But good things come to those that wait and it appears that this team used the time they had to ramp up to this major dvd release wisely. It’s got everything you’d ever want when it comes to extras -- hidden “Easter Eggs” and cutting room floor scenes with Larry, Khalil and Mr.Lint offering the commentary and insider film banter that the grown-ups watching this will love. As with all their humor, even the lines that soar above the kiddies’ heads are still entertaining for the young minds. While the Jonah movie was nice in its own right, disc two’s special features shine really bright -- even down to the menu’s and audio mix. [Big Idea/ Doug Van Pelt]
