Hunting of the President, The
It’s always interesting to keep an open mind. As the 2004 election drew close, I felt like I practically over-indulged in left-of-center political commentary. (Besides the last six months worth of Rolling Stone Magazine, there’s this DVD and the RFK documentary.) Let’s be honest: this documentary takes a Democrat’s perspective of President Bill Clinton’s involvement in the “Whitewater” investigation and the independent counsel headed by Kenneth Starr. One of the DVD’s extras features Clinton addressing the crowd at the movie’s premiere, which shows his intelligent understanding of political history and his astuteness at politics. One has to admire the way he was able to articulate to his supporters some insight into how “the other side” thinks in certain matters. To its detriment, this documentary starts off with the story of an Australian reporter that gets unwittingly sucked in to a subversive rural group bent on bringing Clinton down. It’s so unbelievable that it hampers the credibility from the start.
