Hollywood Homicide

Harrison Ford treads some unfamiliar waters here, and he should probably take heed, lest he fall into a motion picture as troubled as this one again. He’s not Mel Gibson or Danny Glover; nor is he Nick Nolte or Eddie Murphy, but the role of two cops in the Beverly Hills area is hard to mess up on. Josh Hartnett and Ford don’t exactly mess up the plot here. In fact, they do a pretty decent job at saving it. The occupations of their characters add many smirks by proxy: KC Calden (Hartnett) is a wannabe actor whose real-life job is a rookie detective and Joe Gavilan (Ford) is his veteran partner and part-time real estate agent. It’s comical to watch them unashamedly peddle their career hopes at every opportunity; but this is a crime action movie, too, so a story built around a notorious gangsta rapper and his wrong-doings against the backdrop of the hip-hop recording industry is told. Overall, it’s a "Rent Only" that’s entertaining for 116 minutes; but with no extras and not much of a memorable performance, that’ll likely be all. [Columbia Tristar / Doug Van Pelt]
