From Hell

In the movie industry there are violent and gory movies and then there are movies that are just GORE. From Hell provides that GORE, and this should be expected considering the movie portrays the gruesome murders by the essence of evil -- Jack the Ripper. While many of the bloodiest scenes are generally quick, they are also EXTREMELY graphic. The movie is meticulously detailed and endless effort was invested in its production, which can be seen in a smorgasbord of extras on disc two. A favorite was the Production Design extra, which showed the set being constructed from ground up in a field in Prague, Czech Republic. While From Hell is quite impressive from all cinema graphic aspects, the conclusion of the movie was a let down, because it is not historically accurate at all, but then again none of the plot is. Fortunately, the movie could possibly spark many conversations with spiritual roots including the philosophical paradox of the Problem of Evil. From Hell ultimately deserves high marks, but should not be your first choice for an after dinner movie. [Fox Video / Justin Dewberry]
