Finding Nemo

Pixar Animation rules. While it takes the better part of three years to make one of their movies, they’re always worth the wait – entertaining the adults as well as the kiddos. This one is mostly set in the beautiful ocean, which provided a rich backdrop to the storyline. And what a story! A father who goes to any lengths to find his son (sound familiar), and a friend (voiced by none other than Willem Defoe) who sacrifices himself to save another... While having widescreen and full screen versions is nothing new, extending the images instead of cropping to fit that standard screen is. Not one to be chintzy at the diversity of DVDs, Buena Vista loaded these 2 discs up with lots of fun. Besides the cheeky “virtual aquariums,” Pixar takes us inside their studios and educates us on the process of this elaborate work, where every major phase of the movie is broken down without getting “all techno” on us. “Mr. Ray’s Encyclopedia” is a good laugh for both young and old, and even the serious “Exploring the Reef” featurette with Jean-Michel Cousteau emits laughter.
