Dogtown & Z-Boys

Dogtown.jpg

Movies are magic. They always take you somewhere, earning extra points if that somewhere is your own childhood. Even though this "movie" is a documentary, it not only swiftly brought me back to my youth, it validated about 5 years of my life by covering the notorious and idolized Zephyr Skate Team of the late 70s. While it's raw in places (Narrator Sean Penn muffs the dialog up at one point, which questionably remains), it succeeds in capturing the energy and attitude of the times. The extras and "Easter Egg" type bonuses only make a good thing better. I think that all future X-Games events should raise their ticket prices a few bucks and give a copy of this to each person entering. The Z-Boys made an impact on skateboarding which is that historical and significant. [Sony Pictures / Doug Van Pelt]
