Dear God

Dear God

In case you haven't noticed, there's been a lot of "God releases" in the movies lately. Throw this first-time-on-DVD release by Paramount into the discussion. While not a great movie, it's fun and charming to watch people approach (and shy away from) the very subject of the Almighty.

Greg Kinnear plays a con artist that gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Instead of getting thrown in jail, he is sentenced to get a "real job," where he enters the post office and the dead letter division. He starts "answering" letters sent to God ... at first by accidentily mailing money to one of the letter-writers (who, as fate would have it, was in financial trouble). Soon his laughingly dysfunctional co-workers egg him on and "join" him in this new job duty. It's a hoot.
