Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, The

Transport yourself back to your mischevious adolescence here with a poignant tale of young romance, boyish commradery, and the unifying opposition to strict and non-listening authority. Jodie Foster plays an overbearing nun that becomes the boys’ villian in their self-penned comic story that comes alive amidst many layers of story, background and animated cutaways which are imaginatively sewn together to both warm the nostalgic heart and dazzle the artistic eye. The bountiful extras show the comic storyboards and isolates the incredible animation scenes directed by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, along with commentary by the animation producer. Almost a must for any guy, but a hearty recommendation is held back here for the unaccountable, albeit all too realistic, coming of age sexuality and “locker room banter” woven throughout. [Columbia Tristar / Doug Van Pelt]
