Cosby, Bill Himself

In the days before Richard Pryor or George Carlin bought laughs from their audience with the currency of profanity, there existed a comic that could pull laughs from adults while making them feel like kids. A “crossover” artist in his own right (making kids laugh is an entirely different skill than adults), Cosby can make anyone of any age bust at the seams. His description and questions regarding drug and alcohol use is hilarious. Using just a chair and a microphone, he can make you visualize the drunk clutching the toilet bowl and calling out to Jesus and God, promising never to drink again if He bails them out of this one. His description of the stresses of parenthood and the mental tolls it takes is a classic tale that should be shown to all couples in pre-marital counseling. There’s one swear word in the routine, where he’s questioning the intelligence of marijuana use. “It enhances your personality. But what if you’re a (bleep)?”
