Bruce Almighty
There is a difference between a decidedly “Christian film” and a “family movie. Not all Christian or biblical themes are meant for children to digest at very young ages. Think of a descriptive and visual portrayal of the Song of Solomon or David’s torrid affair with Bathsheba, and I think you get the point. Here we are with Bruce Almighty, featuring the king of “potty humor” (or at least one of the princes of potty), Jim Carrey. Yes, it is true that Jim’s character, Bruce Nolan, utters the f-word on camera. Yes, he flips off some young boys in another scene. Yes, there’s a couple sexual references. Those who’d rather not subject themselves to this kind of “worldly” behavior ... you’ve been warned. For the rest of you mature but youthful adults, check this film out! Director Tom Shadyac did a wonderful job telling a story with several lessons and divine mysteries woven into the laughs. The dilemma of free will is tackled with imagination and wit. Morgan Freeman does a fantastic job of playing an easy-going I AM in control character that rivals the best of George Burns (Oh God!). Fantastic and highly (with qualifications) recommended.
