Bratz: Starrin' & Stylin'
This flick for 12 year old girls doesn’t succeed at crossing the bridge into college-age fun, and that’s probably a good thing. While biting sarcasm sometimes brings Rugrats or Spongebob Squarepants into the dvd players of older viewers, it also succeeds in reinforcing the meanness and brattiness (and otherwise bad attitudes) that would best be put off for another few years (when it comes to younger viewers). While an obsession with outward beauty and makeup would describe these four girls to a “t,” the theme of loyalty and forgiveness in friendship are championed even amidst the superficiality of the high school prom. It’s touching, but pretty darn campy.
