Barbershop DVD Collector’s Set
These hit movies couched some really great moral lessons amidst all the humor and street culture spoofing. In the first, we hear an old family friend telling Calvin Palmer (Ice Cube) during a moment of testing: “Your daddy may not have had a lot of money, but he was rich. He was rich, because he invested in people.” And in the second: “Why did Jesus weep?” is a question that comes up twice in this sequel – the second of which is a gut-affirming and back-bone-straightening speech. Yeah, there’s plenty of “street talking” vulgarity/profanity (and one sexually-suggestive scene that might make you blush if grandma was in the room, but not cover your eyes), but the story is good and moral – even drenched in humor. Both are a gas. [MGM] DV
