Bandits

Mixing action, comedy and suspense in one movie is quite a challenge. The action is good in places, but average, as is the comedy, and the editing is very creative, but the writers did a super job zinging us with a surprise ending. Bruce Willis' character (Bob Poe) is lovable but very mean; while Billy Bob Thornton steals your heart with his obsessive compulsion and dimwitted-ness. The love tug-of-war between the two of them and Cate Blanchett is compelling but almost tiring. Like an album with one good song, this DVD was enjoyable, but disappointing. [MGM / Doug Van Pelt]
