Ali

Ali.jpg

This much-hyped movie offers an “inner circle” look at one of the most influential celebrities of the past century, allowing subtle but personal insight into the struggles this heavyweight champion boxer faced in the turbulent times of the sixties, culminating in his triumphant recapturing of the crown against George Forman in 1974. The action and editing put you squarely in his corner as the underdog throughout the movie, where you’ll probably find yourself close to busting out with some cheers as he pummels Jerry Quarry or Sonny Liston. With absolutely no DVD extras, you get nothing but a good flick here. Be on the watch for a special edition in the future that adds further insight into Ali’s career. [Columbia Tristar / Doug Van Pelt]
