Skillet
Collide
Skillet creates an explosive intersection where – as this album’s title track so noisily expresses -- “faith and fear collide.” And while the song “Collide” may utilize a string quartet for its intro, it doesn’t take long before the rock guitars crash in – as they always seem to do with Skillet songs. And boy, does this album offer guitar sounds aplenty! “My Obsession” features axes rocking fast – in an almost heavy metal sort of way – while with “Savior,” they chop-chop-chop, Chevelle-like. Yet even this overtly volume-oriented group gives its amps breathers now and again, exemplified by the chiming guitar sounds that drive “A Little More,” as well as with the acoustic six-strings found on “Under My Skin.” Singer John Cooper comes off as an angry young man in many places here, yet he also has a deep empathy for the plight of troubled ones. On “Imperfection,” for example, he reminds them all that they’re “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Nobody is a perfect physical specimen, he seems to be saying, but that’s still okay. Collide is an album that loudly clashes with our contemporary culture’s obsession with perfectionism, and thankfully, only God’s empathetic truth is left standing. [Ardent / Dan Macintosh]

This is the best overall Skillet CD they have put out. Better than any of the electronic stuff and even heavier than their first release a long time ago. Simply put, It rocks!
