Radial Angel - One More Last Time

While I’d be embarrassed to crank up “The Chemicals Between Us” with my mom in the car, I wouldn’t have any problems with Radial Angel’s saturated modern rock tunes blaring away. Granted, she might not entirely understand neither Gavin Rossdale nor Jared Taber in their leathery, worn n’ gritty vocals, but at least I wouldn’t have to blush over the accented blue language. Nope, Radial Angel is a cleaned-up version of their secular musical counterpart. Prayers, excerpts from a believer’s diary, an evangelical appeal, and the occasional story are the lyrical territory here. I didn’t want to review this album or even listen to it at first, because I was worried that, ‘Here was another band that we championed as an indie that’s now being elevated to major label status,’ and worries of, ‘What if we were wrong? What if this prediction of greatness proves shallow?’ I guess, since our reputation was somewhat on the line, I was nervous. After careful analysis, however, I think tens of thousands of modern rock fans might just affirm this label signing as well. Radial Angel does deliver the rock. Now, if we could just do something about that name... [SQUINT] DOUG VAN PELT
