Jughead - S/T

Oh, yeah! Here’s what I’m talking about! Take the pure unadulterated fun of Foo Fighters, the high-brow first class progressive side of King’s X, and keep it all simple, letting the songs remain in charge, and you’ve got one super release. This is one of those that’ll stay stuck in my car (which has become my home audio studio of choice lately) for weeks. This supergroup of sorts is simply a side project that was birthed out of the death of Platypus – one contingent formed Jelly Jam (Ty Tabor, John Myung and Rod Morgenstein); and one formed Jughead (Derek Sherinian and Tabor with the Bisonnette brothers – Gregg and Matt). It’s hard to believe that a project this solid and this cohesive could just be a side project – an afterthought. Wow! The lead-off track, “Halfway Home To Elvis” and “Snow In Tahiti” are downright infectious and grin-inducing; “C’mon” and “Be Like You” have that fat, mind-numbing low end that King’s X do so well; and both “Flowers” and “Yesterday I Found Myself” could have even been a song the Beatles might’ve done after Let It Be, with a decidedly Brit-rock sound. Lyrically, this album is witty and openly embraces a Son-centric worldview. “Promise,” meanwhile, has got to be one of the saddest songs of the past year. Like a good movie, this album sweeps past several powerful emotions, pulling you along with it. I just can’t believe I waited this long to hear this one. [INSIDE OUT] DOUG VAN PELT

This was a great review- coludn't have said it better myself. I commed HM for including coverage of Jughead. One thing I noticed on the album is that I have to strain to here Derek Sherinian's keyboards, they do seem to be more of and undertone to thicken up the album and I am hoping that was what they wnated to do.I love both Jughead and The Jelly Jam CD's,particularly The Jelly Jam. I simply can't get over the The Jelly Jam release-incredible! Again I am extremly glad that you included Jughead in your magazine! Thanks!! And the website is great!

Although I'm a big Ty Tabor fan, I found Jughead to be a bit of a disappointment. When I had just finished enjoying Ty's "Safety" and The Jelly Jam release, I thought "Jughead" sounded like the follow-up to Crunchy's "All Day Sucker". Great pop, performed by excellent musicians. But lacked the heaviness and progressive elements of the other works. I still enjoy the CD, but it wasn't what I expected from these guys. Sorry.

i haven't heard much of this one but i know there's no comparison to the jelly jam stuff. the jelly jam is a superb line up!they have a excellent sound and chemistry all around that is hard to find.(kinda like KINGS X!!!)

i liked this one, but not as much as platypus. this is only a matter of taste. jughead is power pop music, much in the vein of cheap trick, and they do it very well! i still need to go out and get the jelly jam. oh yeah.....I CANT WAIT FOR BLACK LIKE SUNDAY!!!! IT WILL FEATURE OLD PRE-SILENT PLANET SONGS LIKE "DREAMS", PLUS A FEW NEW ONES!!! THESE ARE ALL NEW RECORDINGS THOUGH!!!
