The Felix Culpa ... talent with HUGE potential.

The free pencil included in the Felix Culpa’s CD case isn’t the only reason to buy their new album titled “Commitment,” but I will admit — it is a selling point. They could be on to something here.
The Felix Culpa strive to be frantic and unpredictable by presenting a predominantly indie rock sound mixed with some screaming here and there. Think angry twothirtyeight or something similar to Coheed and Cambria — even though those two aren’t similar in the least. But just try to imagine it anyways. With clever lyrics that center around raw emotion and honesty, this album is a breath of fresh air amongst a music world filled with canned phrases and processed words.
To begin, the Culpa invite themselves inside with a melodic, thoughtful track titled, “A Benediction.” Once the listener reaches “Numbers” at track six, he or she is screaming along to the background vocals without even realizing it. The album concludes with the ten-minute song “I’m Still Learning,” a final scream and a pretty little tune to finish off. Overall, the album is beautifully calculated from start to finish.
