Disciple - Back Again

Disciple: There’s probably not another band that I spend more time defending to my indie rock peers than this band. It’s gotta be the hair in their press photos. While their first album/EP was produced as one of the early raprock releases (on the mainstream Warner Resound label, no less), they have clearly been steering their sound more towards their metal roots ever since. Now, a good two albums later, they’ve released their most bone-crushing slab of metal yet. While Kevin Young’s pretty vocals don’t quite match the ugliness and brutality of Biohazard or Machine Head, Brad Noah’s gritty distorted guitars keep this Disciple from being mistaken as anything but metal (and I can hear Tim Barrett’s kick drums getting beat pretty strongly, too). I’m not sure I really like it, but it’s undeniably that brand of beat-the-snot-out-of-my-eardrum music. And it is quite strange hearing cries of “hallelujah” and “You are holy,” followed by this rambunctious, churning and violent jamming. Getting my skull pummeled has its own appeal, for sure, and I also like the fact that this album doesn’t slow down for one of those dripping-with-syrup ballads until the very last track. That’s a plus. It’s the power of this album that is most attractive. When comparing muscle size, this one beats out By God hands down. For a musical breakfast, you can have Eggs Benedict or you can have Juevos Rancheros. This would be the latter. Order yours with black coffee, not a girlie latte. [DISCIPLEROCKS] DOUG VAN PELT

Sounds like a good album. I listened to the lead track @ mp3.com. I think that one track sounds better than just about anything on "By God". Is it going to be mostly in that vein?

Disciple is great and so is the title song of the new album. I have been a Diciple fan for ever and they just get better and better. Their sound it awesome yet their message and boldness of Christ is was makes them my fav. band. I can't wait to get my hands on their new ablum Feb. 25th.

Disciple simply does rock! I heard their first song on mp3 and it is awesome! I admire them because unlike POD, Blindside, and Chevelle they are not afraid to proclaim the message loud and CLEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, let's be honest. Disciple sucks! At least the new direction seems to be sticking to relevant music!

"unlike POD, Blindside, and Chevelle they are not afraid to proclaim the message loud and CLEAR"

if POD, Blindside and Chevelle don't proclaim it loud and clear, it's only because you have limited english skills. could it be that perhaps our God can use lyrics that aren't blatant and cliche and trite and ccm?

revolutionbook.com <---read it

I feel their progression over the past few albums is due largely to the impact their producer Travis Wyrick. While the vocal style is still clearly Disciple, the guitars and heaviness has a certain edge reminiscent of Wyrick's personal release. WELL DONE!!!

man disciple is a awsome band!!! no one could disagree!!! i've been hooked ever since i heard there song i just know or thats pretty much what the sing is!!! but lay off of P.O.D., BLINDSIDE, and CHEVELLE!!!!! there awsoem bands too!!! they proclaim christ as much as any other band! i mena P.O.D. was the first chrsitian band i ever got into and i know they'ver helped me! and if u think blindside doesn't proclaim there message loud and clear then read there lyrics like SILENCE!!! awsome ballade thats more of a prayer so open ur mind or go to english class!!! one way or another these bands rock and there reachin out to new fans witha message of hoep and love!!!

Disciple's new CD is Slammin' !

Well produced with powerful guitar and drums from beginning to end. The uncompromising lyrics prove that you don't have to be a "wuss" to proclaim faith in God. Jesus Himself walked among the "harder" side of the world a couple thousand years ago...and He's walking with Disciple as they reach out to those people now.

Rock on...

i bought this album when it came out! incredible hard hitting and oh YEAH, an extremely awesome album! back again and face are truly the gems of this album! disciple is truly one of Christians musics top bands! the lyrics are incredible and backed by scripture, which is incredible! now for p.od., chevelle, and others, they have lost their luster for God. even dmx has songs of praise and prayers to God, so that isn't saying much about p.o.d. and chevelle (and for you saying their message is straight out there). i do enjoy their songs (p.o.d. and chevelle), but as for taking a stand for Christ, i beg to differ! i work with people in nashville and others that are in contact with those bands. needless to say, their walks with Christ are not what they once were. those bands need to listen disciples song, "back again," and they need to get it right! come on, go to p.od.'s web site, and see where they talk about Jesus or how to give your life over to Him. as Christians, we are supposed to be different, sure you can have different ways of expressing it, but not even acknowledging Jesus Christ and telling the unsaved dying world about Him, is just a disgrace. they kind of remind of the stryper of old! in fact, they do not even call themselves a Christian band anymore, p.o.d. and chevlle. it is sad, but look what the world does, satan is powerful, and hope those bands can come "back again" before it is too late! disciple, you are straight forward and i love it, there is nothing hidden! keep the great work up, God will bless you for standing firm to Him, and not the ways of this world (cough cough chevelle, p.o.d., etc)

I am sorry to say that I missed the release date of "Back Again", but I am very glad I purchased today. It sure ROCKS. I also admire Disciple for their straight foward lyrics about Christ. I enjoy Blindside's music very much, but I tend to prefer rockers like Disciple that overtly has the Bible and Christ in the lyrics as opposed to other bands whose lyrics covertly contains Christ. I personaly liked the honest comments by one of the band on the song "Back Again" because I also turned my back on God earlier in my life. I also found myself many a times over the "porcelain dome", which was the start of my realizing nothing but the Lord was going to deliver me from alcahol that was not covering a hard time in my life, but making it more difficult. Finally, I turned back to Christ. Even though since then I have had some hard tribulations, I am still thankful that I am not where I was then. Keep up the work Disciple!!

I saw Disciple in concert last night and bought their CD at the show. They are awesome. I'm a P.O.D. fan, but i've got even more respect for bands like Disciple and Bride, who are so upfront with their lyrics and their message. God has done wonderful things through bands like P.O.D., but there will always be a place for more direct bands like Disciple. Plus, the vocals of Kevin Young, the talented guitar playing of Brad Noah, and the pounding, skillful style of Tim Barrett's drumming are hard to top.

I just want to say that i love all the afore bands mentioned. I have seen Disciple three times and they are awesome. THey can preach your hair out at the festivals. But guess what? they don't do that in the clubs. They know there audience. wHich is very important when one is preaching the Gospel. I have seen POD three times as well. They preach and praise God a lot at the festivals! I saw them also at a club in Rochester NY, they were awesome! THey ask if anyone "was down with Jesus tonight?" I just saw Blindside few weeks ago and they were amazing! So much energy! I took to studying there lyrics and they are more Christian than most CCM bands. "Pitiful" and "Sleepwalking" are so spiritual. How can someone not see it? Stryper was as bold as Disciple in some of their songs. They did the preaching in the arena's and passed out bibles. Understand that all these "big" bands are on the edge of being dropped because of their Christianity. People aren't sure if they like them or not until they relate to them somehow. PRaise Jesus does not make sense to someone who is not saved! There music presents the issues at hand. WHich is what the unsaved like along with the music. But these bands actually offer solutions to the issues. They plant seeds. Don't tell me "Messenjah" and "Portrait"and "Rediculous" among others on "Satellite" aren't obviously Christian. People need to look beyond the radio songs. One should pray for these bands instead of Critisize them. At least they have the guts to say they believe in Christ!
God Bless everyone.

God has richly blessed these guys!ALL OF THEIR STUFF IS AWESOME!!!! if you haven't lately, check their website out and the "PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY" stuff at the home page. these guys are the REAL DEAL!

I have seen disciple over a dozen times. And they really do a good job with this new material. Very good lyrical content as always you can expect from the band. There really bold about our Lord and Savoiur Jeus Christ. Keep these guys in your prayers. And keep on living for Jesus. God bless

What I've heard of Disiciple I really like... so if their new album is best so far than I'll have to get it. I also really like Wyrick... so that's two in the right direction!
As for the people who say Blindside's (and p.o.d., etc.) lyrics aren't Christian...
Have you heard Blindside's "Pitiful"? Read the lyrics. It is clearly talking about Jesus. It may be a song about backsliding or doing things you're not supposed to do, but EVERY Christian goes through that at some points in their walk. It's acknowledging that we are pathetic and that only Jesus can save and change us. The whole "Silence" Album is VERY Christian... but it has songs that are kinda like stories or are talking to specific types of people. Their self titled album is also awesome and lyrically very Christian ("Nerve"... about witnessing and even tho it's hard sometimes to not be ashamed, "Teddybear"... about not taking God for granted that He's not just a throw away comfort that you don't need all the time)
I like songs that are deep and thoughful as much as I like praise songs... maybe even more-so, cuz some speak to me in a very personal way.

I think the Christian stores were caught off guard by this band. I only saw 2 or 3 copies at 2 different stores when the cd released. All of them are gone now.

If you like Disiple you will probably love Mammuth from sweden.
Their debutalbum SHINE is released in sweden on indie label "Talking music" and the sound is going to blow your mind.
check it out at www.talkingmusic.se/mammuth

I have heard 50 seconds of one of there songs and I want their CD now.
of what I heard I give them a 10.(out of 10)
--------------about the whole P.O.D, chevelle, blindside thing----------------
I think Pod, chevelle, are doing there job very well. They are there right now for
people that think that all christan bands suck.("they" havn't heard the real good
one's) And then those bands open a whole new world of christan music to them.
And then they hear bands like disciple and hopefully get hooked on God.
www.g451.cjb.net is the place for free games and goodies.

Blinside!!!! The BEST !!!! so HM post them UP!!!!!

BACK AGAIN is a GOD SEND! I know JESUS CHRIST is proud of this CD!
Kevin's "pretty" vocals?!
Was that a JOKE?
I certainly HOPE SO!
Doug, if you were saying, "Kevin can SING," I will agree, but, dude, seriously! Do you WANT people to listen to this CD? Don't say "pretty" vocals, say something like, "unlike many singers today, Kevin Young not only utilizes the crunch of a blistering, gritty screaming technique, he also sports a talent for actually SINGING!"
That would have been much more accurate!

Anyway, DISCIPLE is CERTAINLY no wimp when it comes to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ without fear!!
What a relief, since very few "Christian" bands realize that Jesus Christ said whoever is ashamed of Him, He will be ashamed of them!

What is wrong with all you people...Disciple released a song called "My Daddy Can Whip Your Daddy's ***" That's right..You know the rest....How are ya'll calling that straight forward..P.O.D., Chevelle, and Blindside all demonstrate more christianity than this filth...Don't get me wrong..I do like Disciple and always have..But I mean..Come on..You can't name a song that and claim to be christian...P.O.D., Chevelle, And Blindside rock...So all you other people must not like real music or something...And all of P.O.D.'s lyrics proclaim God..You just have to be smart enough to understand them..In which most of ya'll aren't all that smart cuz ya'll can't comprehend them...Anyways..Just thought I'd let ya'll know bout Disciple and their downfalls..Not to judge..I fall to..But then again I'm not looked up upon by millions of people....And I still do better than disciple...Later..

Ive never seen so many hateful words coming from so called christians. Okay...lets open up albums by all bands mentioned and read every word. If you dont find more gospel and words of Christ and invitations to the love of Jesus in Disciple's lyrics....you are the one who has not eyes to see my friends. THANK GOD FOR DISCIPLE!!!!

Disciple is the best band I've ever heard in my life their the best as for yall who say disciple stinks, well let's see you play better music, one of disciple's band meambers go to my church!

If u like secular bands like Mudvayne, pantera, or machine head, then u will definatly like desciple (especially there new stuff "back again"). Kepp it real disciple, just like u have been.

Hey Bill-

Disciple never realeased a song called "My Daddy can whip your daddy's ***" It's titled "My Daddy Can Whip Your Daddy." Period. Perhaps before slandering them you should get your facts straight.

I come from a background of enjoying Pantera, White Zombie, Metallica, and Ozzy. When I got saved, I threw all that junk in the trash can. I started listening to Christian music, not because I felt like every Christian who listened to Secular Music was wrong, but simply, it just didnt bring life to me the way music that glorifys the Lord does. I started listening to Worship stlye music after I was saved. I did not know anything like Disciple even exsisted. When I got saved, I did not miss the Satanic enfluence of the music I was into, but I missed that Raw, Heavy, Thunderous Rock that I loved. Then I heard Disciple at the Sonshine Festival last Summer. My eyes filled with tears as I watched the passion of this band. There Hard style mixed with a gospel message and the entoxicating Power of the Holy Spirit on there lips and instruments was like a breath of fresh air to my heart. This is my new favorite band. I can not wait to hear there new stuff this summer.

freakin awsome! ive saw them 11 times now and they just get better! there are always people saved and thats what it is all about!! brad is very repeditive with his guitar riffs but who cares they are a huge witnessing tool!
freaking awsome!!!!

Disciple is by far one of the best bands out there. THey never get old to me. I think you did a good job on this review and I appreciate that you said good things about them

Why did Jesus Christ pay attention to SIMON PETER more than the rest even before and after resurrection?

Hands down my favorite band ever.
Bill, get your facts straight. They do NOT have a song called "My Daddy Can Whip Your Daddy's ***". Here's a deal for you: Show me the Disciple CD with that song title and I will give you $100. Just email me with the proof and I will send you the money. If you're going to badmouth someone, get the facts right at least.

hey i know a great christian band they r thousand foot krutch- rawkfist and kutless

If you're looking for an alternative for dragpipe maybe you can check out project 86, they're pretty sweet. The Disciple cd was hard to find where I am so i had to special order it at the local christian store but i finally got it and it's awesome, i think it's one of the best bands around. I can't wait unitl their new cd comes out, whenever that may be.
