Cutthroat

One look back to where we came from can not only create a deeper appreciation, but most certainly enhance an understanding of the genre. (Ever see Jack White play live?) For years, The Deal has showcased a respect for punk beginnings and ska/oi pick ups. With this new release, Cutthroat, the efforts have come full circle. Where most “dirty” punk sounds rehearsed, The Deal lay it out raw. It blends (yes, blends) with Cutthroat’s stronger hardcore influence – think early Agnostic Front, maybe even Minor Threat’s “Bottled Violence” with discernable vocals. Alright, so, is it contrived? Nope. It fits as well, dispersed within some sick, sick rhythms. And, real quick, there is no punk rock fixation with rebelling. Rebellion was fitting when the National Front was headed to English office in 1977. Collin deserves to be noted for rather impressionable lyrics; addressing issues with certainty, but managing to refrain from the clichés of yester year. Nicely done. [Facedown] David Allen

Thanks for the good review (finally). The only problem I see is the reference to Ska. In no way has the Deal ever been anywhere near playing Ska, and in no way does being Oi influenced give us any relation to Ska. Oi and Ska are two very different and discernable genres.
Well thanks again for at least giving the record a fair and knowledgable review. Only question is, is this one going to be published? The first review of the record published in your mag called the Deal a screamy metal-core band, which couldnt be any further from the truth.

I need to correct myself. I had your publication confused with another.
Fortunately HM did not call us a screamy metal-core band, unfortunately the review we were given wasnt much better. Instead of informing readers of what the record sounds like, it talks about flowers and going into a deeper relationship with us. At least they like the record I guess.

WELL I THINK THE DEAL ROCKS AND THIS RECORDS DOES 2. AND I LAUGHED WHEN U SAID THEY KINDA HAD A "SKA" INFLUENCE WOW. BUT YA GOOD REVIEW

HATS OFF TO YOU DAVID ALLEN.

FINALLY!
we need more reviews of "christain punk"
like THE SCARRED , THE HAVOC, and ONE.21
etc.
nice write up though,...keep em comin

One of the guys from The Deal was on Price is Right years ago. I remember that episode like it was yesterday...although I can't remember if he won anything. Bob asked him what he did and he said he was in a band called "The Deal". "Like, the Good Deal or the Bad Deal?" "No, it's just 'The Deal'." Classic.
