Dashboard Confessional - MTV Unplugged V2.0

Chris Carrabba’s Dashboard Confessional was easily the wonderkid success story of 2001/2002. The magic of his live shows and the spirit of unity that his audiences brought to each show with their sometimes-drowning-out-Carrabba singing was an experience to behold. Capturing one of these moments was a genius move. The fact that it was the MTV2 live performance that was so popular as to be re-aired several times is an even greater bonus. Taken at face value, the audio here is decent to below-average. The sonics and production are good, but the pouts and pain don’t seem present and the interaction between songs sounds just a tad bit too laid back for a rock and roll album. But the redeeming quality of this package is that it’s a double-disc; and the second disc is a dvd of the concert! This rules! So, not only do you hear everything (in a splendid 5.1 surround mix), but you see where it’s coming from. This is the triumphant disc in the set. Absolutely wonderful.

...so HM gives DC a sparkling good review... and leaves switchfoot out to dry?

sheesh.

peace.

dvp sure has come a long way, if DC can win him over with acoustic emo "i hurt" lyrics, they must really have something special. but i cant say i'm all that enthused to run out and buy a CD and DVD of junior high girls singing chris carraba tunes...

don't bother. i'm all bitter now...

peace.

Give me a break. Emo is every single piece of music that has ever been written since the creation of time. Email me for a copy of my "Emo essay".

Congradulations, Christopher Carabba, you are a genuis. ANd your songs are as emotional as Slim Dusty's "Have A Drink With Duncan"

THis album is Pure Beauty

Chris's Dashboard stuff is great I think, a little sobby and whiny at times yes but full of emotion. Although I hear his plans are to bring FSF into it sometime I think FSF can stand on their own very much so. Chris can do it on his own now but he sure did leave FSF out to dry but they turned it around... Dashboard is a packed emotion show and Chris uses his emotion to the fullest. A beautiful singlet of disc melodies talking back to the dashboard of his car and he should continue to do so. Hooray for him

his plans are to bring FSF into it sometime? what, he thinks FSF is his little puppet that will do what he wants? what a terd.

peace.

Dashboard's a Christian band??

Man, Chris is too big. This sucks. I've loved Dash BEFOR MTV decided to make him the front man for "EMO" FLIPPING SCREW MTV AND SCREW ALL THE FRICKIN RETARDED MIDDLE SCHOOL MINDED KIDS THAT JUMP ON THE "COOL" BAND WAGON. They ruin every thing.....................

I was told about Dashboard Confessional long before I had ever heard an album. I was honestly one of the idiots spouting "Emo Sucks!", and "Emo is the NEW New Wave!".
I finally broke down and borrowed "Swiss Army Romance" from a good friend who gave it a stellar reference. I was quite impressed. It soon became my favorite album, and I was looking forward to the "MTV Unplugged 2.0".
Again I was duely impressed. It was an easy transition going "unplugged", but the entire feel of the set was amazing. It was a very touching recording. I recomend starting with "Swiss Army Romance", but feel this was an awesome addition to my now complete Dashboard Confessional collection.

I loved Dashboard before it was a popular household name. Chris Carraba made the kinda music I could relate to and sit and listen to when nothing seemed to be going okay. Then of course everyone found my secret to making a good day, an okay one. I think alot of people can relate to good emo music, it's so real. I'm less on the Dashboard wagon now though since it's so mainstream now. I liked it better when I was one of the scant few who recognized the name. As for the album, I was disappointed. The dvd is ok, since you get to see things live, but i was nowheres near captivated by it. Stick to the other cds, you'll be much happier. And don't be afraid to search out some other good emo.

DC sucks.
i dont see why everybody likes them so much... stick w/ fsf.. so much better

I really can't understand, or for that matter tolerate people who stop liking a band simply because others find out about them. You would think that fans would be happy to see the sucess of a band that has given to them so much. Why is it people have to have their "little secrets". It makes us as artists feel unappreciated for the hard work we do all those years before we become more recognized. It is a cruel reality we have to deal with, and a sad one. Our fans are fickle and really care less about us, than the neato underground status we have. Fickle fans make me ill.

When "The Moon Is Down" finally came out in 2001 I was in awe. I think it's one of the best that T&N has ever put out. When I heard Chris quit after the release, I jumped on Napster (remember that) and downloaded some tunes. At first, I wasn't that impressed. But, listening to the whole album(s) of "Swiss Army Romance" and "The Places You Have..." I was totally blown away by this guy's ability to write a song about a personal subject matter, but make me think he was writing it for me and about my life. He's talented, can play the guitar well, and has a vocal range that challenges anyone else in indie music. As far as emo goes, I think it used to mean something. Much like "alternative". Rites of Spring, Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate. Appleseed Cast. Brilliant! What's emo now? It's a bunch of things and really it's just a buzz word. Anyway, that's my rant...

i used to like hm, but things are goiing down hill, fast.

That dude sucks, start featuring good reviews you stupid dudes. I want more christian death metal, gimmie

while i think it was kind of low to leave FSF the way he did...they pulled through all right. i also disagree with the concept that DC is 'christian' persay... while his personal beliefs may be such, i don't believe it translates through in his music.

all that being said, however, for some odd reason, the indy kid in me still likes him, despite all the 'indy-hate' going on against him. there is something appealing about his music. he's got the talent and the lyrical style to really win over audiences. i don't know that he really fits the 'emo' label, as that has become rather worn and overused label. acoustic folky..maybe... or i'm just totally stretching because i don't want to use the emo label on him.

i just don't know...there's an indy-rock snob in me that wants to not like him...and yet i do anyways. it's always nice to see a band you've been following for a while hit it big (i.e. blindside...)

anyways...i've blathered on enough

//spunj13

my beef with this album is the sound quality... i don't think it's that good. and watching teeney bopper mtv slaves on the DVD suck. but chris (and the rest of the band) are genius and i dig his music alot. all you kids who want to yell and rave how things are fair because you're underground heroes are getting big need to grow up. some day you'll realize it's ok to like things just because you like them and not because it's cool too. and you might even come to grips with the fact that you can express an opinion without yelling or using the term "this sucks" frequently. respect others... DVP shouldn't get pounded for his opinion, you don't want to be.

i think dashboard is great, and those of you who are upset about his split with fsf... let me tell you this. he hand picked fsf's new singer, jason gleason, and i have to say fsf is better for the change. chris was right to put all his effort into dc and i admire that he did what was right for himself, and did it without leaving fsf hanging out to dry. kudos, chris, you rock. and you fsf fans should check out their new album, how to start a fire. it's awesome. :)

fuckerz

Dashboard Confessional started out as an amazing thing. Especially with the 'Swiss Army Romance' album. Now he's become every teen pop kid's dream. I can't wait to hear the new album, and see how the fame has changed his music. Sad to think that such a good thing may sale out as soon as he will.

Ok, I don't get WHY once someone gets "discovered" by the main stream eveyone who used to follow them hates them. I mean the music is the same music. So what, DC is on MTV2, be proud it, don't diss DC cause they got popular. Grow up and stop acting like little kids. Let other people enjoy good music without turning on artists. I do agree it sucked how Chris left FSF but they got it going now so its all good. Peace. God bless.

I think when a band is indie and they go to having a following or get a more 'mainstream' based audience, the 'original' fans see the change in the music. Sure, when a little band gets signed to a big label, the quality is better. But, look at the new Juliana Theory album. It smells of corporate tampering. Brett sings a lot differently than the their previous effots. Sure, the style changed, but some paticular things bug me. Production for one. I think its a bit overproduced. I could go on for days, but it won't matter. I'm just rambling and it's late. Just know, I still like them and Dashboard and the Beatles so blah...

I think that this album is quite good. Well there's a hole there and here, but it is entertaining. It got the DVD, so... it's even better. But 1 thing I notice is the attitude of the former fans, when still indie, they like it, when it gets popular and everyone liking it, it's not cool anymore. What, now the 'underground scene' has many rules too now? Oh, fuck. Music is still music. I think if it can reach a lot of people that doesn't mean anything bad. DC reached a lot of peoplo, and it meant something to them. And they didn't change a bit. This whole hardcore/punk/emo thing is too exclusive, too many rules. It must be boring to stay in those lines.

dashboard rules, and all of you who think otherwise seriously arent going to effect any of the true fans by posting how they "suck". and yeah it kind of sucks that he is becoming more mainstream but when you think about how the music makes you feel every time you listen to it. do you really care, as long as he doesnt let the fame effect his music. keep singing chris.

Dashboard Confessional is so overrated. His songs are sweet and innocent but he is almost 30 and he's singing too and about highschool romance/girls. He could at least write songs that were more meaning full. I must say, "Hands Down" is the best song ever written by him, period. He's great I just wish his songs were more around his age group. If you guys are into Dashboard and acoustic stuff, check out Jordan Tyler! He's the one you guys should be listening to. It's not whiny and his songs are more his age group. Jordan Tyler is one of the best solo acts out there by FAR! check him out at
www.jordan-tyler.com
Download his songs and then buy his record! You will not be discouraged in the least. besides that, read what the new HM says about his record in the "reviews" section. Jordan Tyler rocks!

I ask the same question to DC fans that my girlfriend asks me about death metal "How can you stand to listen to an entire album of that garbage?" I would rather listen to Justin Timberlake than this stuff! (Really...I dig Justin...umm...so I guess that really doesn't help my point...Doh!)

Total bullshit. "Wonderful" should never appear in the same sentence as "Dashboard Confessional."

Guy, you are such and idiot!! Dashboard is beast! anyone who thinks differently either has no feelings, or acts like he is to macho to admitt it.

Dashboard Confessional led by Chris Carrabba is an awesome new band that hit the scene a couple years ago. For all of you that are stuck on the "emo" part of the music, get over it. Its about the music, and the message that it portrays: its not about the title that has been stuck onto it. Dashboard is a great band and should finally reap the credit that it deserves.

What can I say? this cd is awesome and you get a free DVD with it, you can't beat that, I love this cd the songs are awesome and the crowds voices singing along makes you feel like your right there with them. this cd rocks

i love JOHN REUBEN

"everybody hurts sometimes" but not all of us need
to make a career out of singing such lethally irritating songs of whiny crap. It's like how was further so good with carabba at the helm and how is he so awfully bad by himself? I "CONFESS" that this whiny "acoustic emo" makes me want to drive my head through the "DASHBOARD." Sorry if that only seemed funny to me, but I was just trying to think of something really bad to say about this horrible disgrace of a band..

Dashboard Confessional = Super !

Dashboard fans listen up, dont say you like the lyrics, and Chris is a genious because DC just follows an equation created decades ago. dont say that you like the music because it really is sub-par music theory and composition.
-- a large audience pool + 6 chords and a beat + universal feelings = a lot of ignorant fans --
** try listening to some classic rock and blues and find out what rock really is.

Chris is more brave than you or I could ever be. He is putting all his personal feelings and emotions out there for everyone to hear. For us, it's like writing a diary and not only handing it out around our school but to almost every school in the nation giving people free reign to do with it what they want. Not everyone is going to relate, but that doesn't mean they suck or that they kick-ass either, all that matters is that mabye people could respect what he's doing wether you like it or not. You think that unless you tell Chris and DC personally how you feel about their music that its going to matter what you think? Its not........people will always go to their shows and sing along with him because they love it and he won't stop writing emotional songs that can touch everyone if they are truly open to it, so.......It doesn't matter if Chris is christian and it doesn't matter if DC sucks in your eyes because who are we to judge?

Screw "equation's"...........Do you like DC or not? If you do thats great, enjoy them, if you don't that's great, listen to what you like and leave it at that. Whats the point in getting worked up over wether or not you like a band? Let the people who relate enjoy it. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you should upset the people who do. The world would be a better place. (you want to hear true genious? John Coltrane, Booker Little, Clifford Brown........)Music is music. Emotion is everything.

I think Dashboard is awesome. Alot of people, myself included, just like dashboard because of their music, not because it's the 'cool' thing to like. I would fit into the teenage girl stereotype and am nothing like that, so maybe you shouldn't stereotype like that just because other people are starting to like your favorite band. I also agree that it's incredibly childish to stop liking a band just because they become popular.. Grow up ! I guess I can understand if the band completely changes their style once they become popular, but I can't see any difference in Dashboard. Stop being so selfish and let other people like/listen to dashboard without ranting about 'teenage girls' liking them.
