Chariot, The

Fronted by former Norma Jean vocalist Josh Scogin, The Chariot has set out to revive a tradition long since forgotten by the majority of today’s rock-and-roll musicians—making an authentic record relying solely on human ability. Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead, Nothing Is Bleeding overflows with raw human emotion and unconventional sounds (“Die Interviewer” introduces itself with an eerie banjo solo). Scogin’s voice has improved substantially, driving songs with chaotic screams, deep growls and a few attempts at (or mockeries of) melodic singing. The lyrical format that graced Norma Jean’s Bless The Martyr, Kiss The Child has accompanied Scogin and company on this outing, adding to the originality of the album. “And Then, Came Then” is uniquely brought together by uncanny intro music, setting the tone for lyrics that speak profoundly about devastation. Directly following is “The Company, The Comfort, The Grave,” which adds to The Chariot’s in-your-face style (“This Christ you preach, I know, but who are you?”). Arguably the best track on the album, “Goodnight My Lady, And a Forever Farewell” is complimented by catchy guitars and well-defined drumming patterns. Multiple band members seemingly trade-off screaming through the track’s entirety, making for a breathless if disorienting listen. Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead, Nothing Is Bleeding is certainly the most brutal, aggressive music that Solid State has put out to date—and yes folks, that includes Norma Jean. yeah i agree with that! i dont know why i even like more chariot than norma jean...

That is a good review for The Chariot. Josh is so much better on this album than on the previous Norma Jean albums. I'm very impressed with what I've heard from them, both on the cd and in live proformances.

i definitely agree with the review. although i still love norma jean, the chariot just seems fresher and something new...maybe thats because it is...

The Chariot owns!!! But don't discount the boys from Norma Jean just yet... O' GOD, THE AFTERMATH drop Tuesday: faces will be melted and socks will be rocked off!!!

"...is certainly the most brutal, aggressive music that Solid State has put out to DATE—and yes folks, that includes Norma Jean."

I haven't forgotten about O' GOD, THE AFTERMATH. From what I've heard, it looks promising.

norma jean blows these dudes out of the water. o god the aftermath rules this chariot album. seems like live recording is the new way of saying "bad" recording, because this definitely is just that.

The Chariot was a very creative CD, knowing both Norma Jean and The Chariot (I went to school with Norma) i think it is very arguble on who is the hardest or who is the better of the two. Norma Jeans newest CD "O God The Aftermath" rocks hard and is more acceptable than The Chariots release. I enjoyed both alot and I have to support my homeboys.

I love Jean better than the Chariot - though the Chariot is a good rest from time to time. can't wait for both bands to be on tour together - it will be heaven!

BRUTAL. Simply put. most original recording i have ever heard. Back to the roots of rock and roll. New Norma Jean is like Botch and shouldnt be compared to The Chariot. They do have obviously the same influences but The Chariot does metalCORE right and the NJ are more metal. not to be compared still. Both are my fav. (and a side note...if it aint scogin singing for NJ ...i would rather have no one else but Cory Brendan....strong christian dood.. with amazing vocals.. fits soo well with their new botch-style album)

this band is boring.

the chariot cd is def amazing. its just like old norma jean simply bc its the same singer in both. josh is a great independent singer. new norma jean is great too. these guys have def matured alot and their new cd proves tht. i always hear ppl say "oh it sucks bc its not norma jean!" it fucking is norma jean just more hardcore and less breakdowns. its a good thing new norma doesnt sound like old norma otherwise there'd be 2 great bands tht sound alike.

Both bands rock, and they should go on tour togeather, however I don't think my neck would survive the show, especially if Sinai Beach tags along.

All of you are looking at this the wrong way. The Chariot and Norma Jean are two different bands. The singer left the band to form a SEPERATE project. Though most if not all comments have been positive, unlike other review threads about them. But in my opinion The Chariot and Norma Jean, yes, are alike, Josh writes some of the music not only the lyrics, but the presentation of them differ. EIAEIBNIDANIB, (acronym for the CD name....i know) is a strong album and ANYONE who has a different taste or whatever is fine, but there is those people who just don't get the sincerety and authentisim in this. I listen to it over and over and don't get sick of the voice, or the music, it's just something new. and as goes for o'god the aftermath, i'm a bless the child fan, but the cd is worth the squeeze, (watch the girl next store).

obviously the chariot has similarities to norma jean but it is nice to have another band out there there rock almost as much as norma jean

I remember reading about why Josh left Norma Jean and created The Chariot. It was awesome to me how it was all God motivated. There was no other reason why he did so than that God told him too. That's a hard thing to do, especially when you work hard to make a band like Norma Jean so awesome, and then just quit because God said so. More people need to listen when God talks like that.

Musically speaking, There are definately similarities between the two bands. But I think the new Norma Jean album (Which is Spectacular) really pushes the gap between the two bands musically speaking. It's hard to mistake one for the other. Which is good. No one likes hearing a zillion bands that sound exactly alike, unless you're into pop punk.

The Chariot put out a great cd. It's great for hardcore dancing and head banging, but nothing beats Norma Jean. Though i love O GOD THE AFTERMATH, I will miss Josh screaming lines like "Now you're doing the waltz with your murderer." But if you are looking for a cd packed with screams full of emotion, then you will love The Chariot.

the two bands are so diverse it is almost impossible to comare them, as the style is so completely different. the two bands contribute so much to the hardcore scene it is not possible to overcredit them.

the chariot is truely insane. Josh has an amazing voice, and has def improved over the past few years. This is a must buy cd.
