Angry Einsteins
Cracked
X-Sinner was viewed as being the Christian alternative to AC/DC back in their day. In 1996, Rex Scott (drums and vocals), Rob Kniep (bass and vocals), and Greg Bishop (guitars and vocals) started writing material in a much more modern rock direction. Doctoring up songs to the “nth” degree, they dubbed the project Angry Einsteins after the revolutionary inventor, Albert Einstein. To show the name is worthy, for example, the band reworked the melody for “You From the Start” for 80 hours in the studio, finally scratching the entire thing and starting over. Talk about perfectionists.
The Einsteins deliver fun, alternative rock. This disc has been a long time coming, and the delays are unclear. It has finally seen the light of day thanks to Retroactive Records. The tracks are very reminiscent of The Rembrandts, most popular for the theme song to the hit television show “Friends.” “Fun, Fun, Fun” is a wild romp through the Beach Boys classic. We only see the band rear its Brian Johnson devil horns once, nodding to yesteryear on “Prophet and the Cowboy.”
While this would have fit a bit better in the music scene five years ago, it’s still good stuff. Strong songs, good lyrics, quality musicianship, and excellent recordings make the Angry Einsteins geniuses.[Retroactive Records/ Chad Olson]
