"Right. We're kinda on the edge. We're a commercial-focused band. We're not an underground band, but at the same time, there are more underground bands that we like, that we can play with. We like to play with those bands. Honestly, the genre we've played with the most is ska, which is kind of funny, and the kids are pretty receptive, because we're a pretty crowd oriented band."
Yeah, and there's a lot of rap vocals in ska, and there's varieties of different beats and stuff in both, so it can go together pretty well... Of course, in the Christian market they'll put all kinds of crazy things together!
"Yeah, totally."
I understand you work with youth...
"Yeah, I'm actually college director of my church. I actually just finished that position. I'm not doing that anymore because I'm touring. I've actually been working high school ministry for over four years, so I've got a small group of kids, about 25 or 30, that I've been working with for a long time, and they're really close to me. So that's a big part of my life."
Well, has that been, like, your full-time job then?
"Well, actually I've been a full-time student. I just graduated from Southern California College. (Ministry) has always been just a volunteer thing."
What kind of stuff do the other guys do? Are they students as well?
"Yeah, we've all been students. Randy and Steven just, actually, graduated from high school. They're 18... and I'm 23. I just graduated, and then Alex has been attending junior college, so yeah, we've all just been working our jobs on the side and going to school, and doing the band, and doing ministry as we can."
How do you feel about being asked to play the HM Stage at Cornerstone?
"Well, it's a great opportunity. Cornerstone's a huge festival, and we're gonna show up with our normal 10,000 flyers, and get as many kids packed into that tent as we can, and have a lot of fun. It's definitely a cool opportunity."
