Today was a great day, and it was also my last. We wrote and recorded two blues songs with the help of some press releases for lyrics. I copy edited every single album review (except the two that Doug has yet to write). I got offered to do this tour ad for The Awakening and I finished that and I like the way it turned out; so did the people who wanted me doing it! I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and it definitely gave me the extra push needed to prove to myself this is what I want to do. If you ever get a chance to meet one of these guys that runs this place, take it; you'll be doing yourself a favor. They've both taught me way more than you can imagine, not just about magazines, but about life in general. But now I must say goodbye! And with that, I'm done.

So I've been working on this ad to go in a kiosk at these Christian retail stores and when I came into the office today, for the millionth time, I had to re-do it. It's good that it keeps getting re-done as the contact person is trying to make it the most accessible, but I wish he would have just given me all the run-down on the thing when he saw it the first time. I changed things and then he mentioned things that were on the original as problems, as if I can't handle them all at once. Blech, oh well, I love designing so no big deal.
Speaking of design, I designed an online ad for The Scene Online. It looks pretty cool, I enjoyed doing it and hopefully it will bring people to the web site.
Today, in search of advertising, I thought to myself that maybe music download sites would be interested in advertising with us; after all, we are a music magazine. So I searched each one and sure enough, they have plenty of Christian music that's pertinent to our magazine, so I found all the contact emails and sent them to Doug.
Speaking of Doug, he got me a design gig that pays. It's to design a full-page b&w ad for this tour for a band called The Awakening (they're goth). It is like half of what she would have paid, and it works out well for all of us as I'm used to NOT getting paid for work, but she's used to paying way more for work. So everyone's happy. I'll finish that up today.
At one point, I had to consolidate a ton of press releases and form them into bullet points for news in the next issue. This is also a tedious process, but not as bad as entering names into a database.
Once again, definitely sent out some merch. This is a habit of mine, this merch-sending. Keep buying, and I'll keep sending. This and filing sub cards. I rule.

Well, it was a good weekend. My band Beretta had a show that went reasonably well; Zane broke a string in the first song and that kind of dampered the mood a bit (esp. since it was just us two), but it picked up again for rocking songs two and three.
This is also the start of my last week here at HM. *tear* I'll be missing these guys, but in the mean time (in this week before deadline) it will be a party. Today, I did some highly successful accounting using my Microsoft Excel skills to make a spreadsheet that tracked all the merch Doug brought back from the Sonshine Fest this past weekend. I found out what was sold, how much was sold, counted all we had in cash and checks and stuff and marvelled at our contribution to the GDP.
There were also mailing lists to be entered into the computer, so before lunch, I sent Doug a list of all the emails of people that signed up. (For the rest of the day after I wrote a Ten-33 album review and proofed two other album reviews, I entered in mailing addresses of people who signed up. This is a ridiculously long and boring process.)
Doug also gave me the new Zao CD which was totally awesome. He also gave me a copy of this "Independence Day" various artists CD and as I turned it over, lo and behold, one of my good good friends back in South Carolina named Mack's band Doc Sommers Band was on it. If you get a chance, you should really check these guys out. He's in NY all summer and the band will reconvene soon, but in the mean time, you can check out there web site at http://www.docsommersband.com.
Watched more Playmakers. An astounding series, seriously. Oh, and go check out Napolean Dynamite. Blockbuster hit of the summer, fo sho.

Party today. A metaphorical party, more like. For a good part of the morning, David was showing me tricks on Photoshop, like how to cut people out better and showing off some plug-ins that make things like cutting things out easier. I guess it's kind of nerdy I love that kind of stuff, but I rest comfortably knowing that David also loves it and I'm sure there are millions of others out there who love it and could rip me apart in it.
Had some Subway (I'm trying to eat healthy) for lunch while watching the best show ever (that's not sarcasm, it is the best show ever) Family Guy today. Then spent some time skateboarding with David until both of us passed out from heat exhaustion. It had to be over 100 degrees.
In the mean time, I condensed an article already on our web site for print, and I also copy edited an interview with the band Bleach that is saying goodbye soon. I'm about to re-do this Ten-33 album review because I accidentally saved over the original and didn't make a second copy anywhere. I know, stupid. I have back-ups of everything else. Of course it'd be that one that I lose. I'll also type up this old article Doug wants as an internet exclusive.
Coming to Houston tomorrow for a show! Looking forward to that. It's been too long.

i want to know how you can be so hateful in your reviews...hateful to brothers and sisters in Christ. it's really disappointing to see such cruel and outright mean descriptions being laid upon hard-working bands spreading the name and love of Christ.
