June 20, 2002:
Ah yes, another infamous installment of the insane ramblings of a lowly intern (aka intern diary). I am currently solidifying promotional items and having them sent to Creation. Lee came in today totally out of it because he had a tooth pulled yesterday and he was taking pain killers. It was a miserable and yet at the same time ironically comical to watch him attempt to make phone calls. It sounded like he was talking through cottons in his mouth. i finally conviced him to go home because my sides hurt so much from laughing at him. Poor guy. Count down three days until we head out for the festivals. I just hope everyone who is riding in my car has showered the night before we leave. Otherwise windows will be locked and they will have to suffer the unpleasent consequences. Anyway thas bout it boys and girls. The End.

today was my day to work on the sampler. Oh Joy (teeth clenched tightly in agony). It's not all it's cracked up to be. Lots of phone calls. I think I might be getting a blister on my ear I have made so many. The only reward to this part of the job is having someone be estatic about being invited to be on the sampler. I also called Chick-fil-a to do some advertising with us. MMMM no such luck. they do all their advertising by regions- not nationally. I have found something fun to do though. When I get a answering machine I challenge myself to see how much information i can get out before the stinkin machine cuts me off. Oh well at least it feed my whole being rejected insecurity well. HHMMM well I'm off. Tally-ho.

This was a really cool day. We had a great staff meeting this morning with a great bible study that followed. Then we immediately went from there to a Bar B Que place called Rudy's where we all ate together like a big family (tear)...well not really. Actually I didn't get misty eyed I just laughed alot. When we got back I finalized my articles and then worked on calling people to finalize promotional giveaways. I am also reading the most intrigueing book called The Question of God. It is a contrast of C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud and their ideas on God, Sex, and the Meaning of life. It is extremely good so far. It makes me feel smart.

Well, today I started a round of new projects, because all my articles and reviews are done... at least for the moment. It's time to gear up to go to the festivals this weekend. It's gonna be great. I hope anyone who has been reading this diary will come by and say hi. I am also in the process of tracking down big companies to adverise in HM, such as chick-fil-a and coke and hopefully snickers. But now is the time to focus on festivals and make some connections. Check ya'll later.

Thursday, June 13, 2002:Short day. I have some other things to attend to. I need some time to work on the material for the class I'm receiving credit for with this internship. Though for the short time I was here this morning I was quite proud how productive I was. Anyway catch ya later.

Today was my day to work on the CD sampler. It was cool. I got to talk to some really nice people. We are trying to get some pretty big name bands for the Sept/Oct sampler. Hopefully, God willing, it will turn out to be the best sampler yet. That's bout it this time round. see ya round.

Being good at Advertising/Publicity is not about how well your sales skills are; it is how you overcome the world evil of REJECTION. Today I felt like I was back in High school soliciting that prom date who is way out of my league, because today REJECTION was my middle name. I mean, it's not easy asking a car dealership to give a car away from their lot on a whim and coaxing them with promises of fantasy promotional opportunities. We also had an in depth street team meeting about how we will conquer the festivals with stories of witty journalism and reasons to subscribe to our wonderful mag. Anyway time to go home. Another day under the belt. Thank God!!! But I must say I am loving every minute of this gig.

Well, today was pretty slow. I still can't find anyone to donate a guitar. And there is absolutely no one at the Vespa scooter offices who will answer the phone. They are all just answering machines. I bet it's a govermental conspiracy. The majority of the day we have spent listening to indie cds. There is not much original stuff at all; and after about the thirtieth cd, they turn into listening to genres not bands. As for the intern crowd, we are getting more comfortable with each other. This is evidenced by how we are no longer (afraid) to voice our opinions on music, but today we got on some touchy subjects. I think the rest of the interns here don't like how opinionated I am on certain issues. While I have strong stances on many subjects -- like cloning, war, philosophy, and how christians should spread the faith -- I still strive to have an open mind. It is tough to have a serious conversation here, though, because most of us have a very strong satirical side, which potentially gets in the way of good thought provoking conversation. Anyway, I think it will become more interesting when we are in a car for a couple of days and road trippin it to Creation and Cornerstone. Could be fun or it could be a nightmare.

I hate writers block. Hate is a strong word. I HATE writers block. But hey it happens to the best of us. We got our staff copies of the July/August issue of HM. It looks so cool. It honestly is one of the best looking and most colorful issues to date. Stories due tommorow. But I'm going home to take a nap and eat one of those tasty microwave dinners from the dining delights of Lean cuisine. YUM!!
