We asked Dan Weyandt what he thought about this contest. Here's what he said:

"I just heard about it. I think it’s weird for us, because we’re all just like, I’d say, a lot of us -- especially all the guys in the band – we’re far from having egos. We don’t really look at ourselves as anything. Like, even signing autographs is weird. But I understand. I don’t want to seem like I’m a jerk or anything, but I don’t feel like I’m an important enough person that people should want or have my autograph, but I just don’t want to come across like a jerk, you know what I mean? If it makes someone happy to… There’s bands I’ve went and seen that aren’t big and that I’ve really liked, smaller weird bands that I was really excited to get some autographs from, so I kind of look at it that way, you know? It’s kind of more in that vein. For us, it’s a little weird, because it’s like, why wouldn’t anyone want to roadie for free for a day? But there’s definitely… I guess whoever wins and does that, if they have a good time, it’s an awesome experience for them, and I think that’s cool. I’m sure there’s, like, bands that if they did that and I won, I’d definitely have a great time. But we’re not gonna make ‘em work too hard or anything. We don’t have too much stuff. We don’t have a big stage show or anything. It won’t be too bad. We always help, anyway.

"I think it’s cool. I think anything that kind of like… You know, bands are there because of fans. Unless you’re independently wealthy. The fact that here and there you can try to give something back, or give a cool memory or a positive memory or a day that they’ll always remember or something. I think that’s really cool. Everyone in the band has kind of a weird self esteem about themselves, so even the town we live in... We come home and it’s like nothing. It’s not like… There’s no rock stardom or anything like that. So, I guess, sitting around this town, people are like, “You’re in a band? You ever play outside of Pittsburgh? Do you have a CD? You have a CD out? Holy crap! Good luck!” It’s kind of a weird vibe around here. I can’t explain it, but I think that tends to help with that – not feeling whatever. I think it’s cool, because if someone wins and is stoked to win, they’ll have a good time and get some positive memories out of it. I think it’s cool to give a little something back here and there.

I hope I win! I'm going to Africa a few weeks after the 6th on a Missions trip where I'll be playing music for the Saharawi Refugee Camps and what a July that would be! Plus I need to contact Dan somehow, as he's a tattoo artist, and I want him to do my tattoo design I have in mind. So what a time to talk to him about that don't you think?
