xxxChurch - Overcoming porn
In a society where nothing is shocking and everything medium pushes the limit simply because they can, obviously pornography seems to be no big deal. Of course, looking from a Christian perspective, pornography is certainly sinful but rarely do we consider it actually damaging, physically and mentally. We too, have become complacent on the subject and this is where xxxchurch puts it’s foot down and redraws the line between the purity that Christians should experience in their life and the sin that has slid it’s way in.
How did your organization start? What led to the vision? How did the original vision change or how did what you do evolve from the original idea?
Mike and I came up with the idea for xxxchurch at lunch one afternoon after we both had read the book roaring lambs by Bob Briner. We both were not porn addicts, but saw so many people in and out of church struggling with this topic and none addressing it in a relevant way. So, why not start a Christian porn site. It was one of those conversations that a lot of people have probably had that nothing normally happens after but i was so excited about it and told Mike we have to do something on this. As soon as I got back to my office I registered the domains, made a sticker and a t-shirt and got to work on the project. We set out to talk about a problem no one was talking about and raise awareness on porn and wanted to work with the industry to try and create some real solutions not more problems. That was our mission and we have stuck to it....
Why do tiny little dots that make up printed photographs and / or images on a computer screen -- why do those things "objectify" women? And what does that really mean? How is that harmful?
Porn is fantasy not reality, and so many people we meet can't separate the two and that is where so many problems begin. Porn is easy, masturbation is a selfish act that pleases no one except you. Porn makes sex become just an act and it cheapens the act rather then enhancing the act. So many people use porn as an aid to their sex life and it becomes a replacement for it. Porn messes you up, the images never go away and eventually you will act out on what you see. Porn leads to more porn and more porn leads to porn blvd and at the end of porn blvd is a dead end. Porn leaves you hanging....you start looking at it more and enjoying it less and then try and search for the next thing.
Do you consider xxxchurch a ministry? Why or why not? How did you get or attempt to get support from other churches, other ministries?
Xxxchurch is a non-profit ministry. We are funded through our parent company fireproof ministries and receive support from churches, individuals, and business's. 90% of churches and Christians are supportive of what we do once they figure out what we are all about. Many jump to conclusions after hearing our name and will not give us the time of day because they have already made up their mind about us based on our name. Those people don't bother us though, you either get it or you don't. And so many in the church still don't get it. But there are many who understand that the church our parents grew up on is not the church that is going to reach this next generation. Xxxchurch is not a building, we do not hold Sunday morning service but that does not mean we are not the church and the body of Christ. Xxxchurch has had an incredibly easy time reaching people with our message, because we have stepped out of the building and gone to where the people are at and tried to meet them there. I think we have gotten way to lazy in our churches and our mind set needs to change. We have giant buildings that we expect people to come to and we rarely challenge our people to get out of the church and on to the frontline. Many people appreciate what we do but tell us they could never do it. Why not? What are we scared of? Jesus did not sit in boardrooms, and create memos and mindless amount of paperwork and budgets he was out there with the people. I believe we have what people are looking for the problem is we cant wait any more for people to come to us, we have to be willing to bring that message and that hope to the people even if that means going to a porn show. Of course not everyone is called to go to a porn show, but what is it you can do to be salt and light to the earth
