Palaris Interview

Here is the second of two interviews with two bands that are out on tour (co-sponsored by HM Magazine)
-- Palaris. Their debut album, The Pros and Cons of Redemption, comes out today (August 21). Check 'em out.
How do you perceive the role of artist in light of your faith in Christ?
We don't view ourselves any differently then any other artist, Christian or secular, but because our faith is the most important thing in our lives, it provides our viewpoint on life which is what we use as the basis for our "art".
What are 5 to 10 albums that everyone reading this should own? Why?
The Police - "Greatest Hits" Classic songs way ahead of their time
The Julianna Theory - "Emotion is Dead" It's just got quality songs that should be heard.
This Day and Age - "Always Leave the Ground" It's pop music with depth which is definitely a rarity these days.
Copeland - "In Motion" Brilliant songwriting that provides a variety of sounds but stays consistent.
Jonezetta- "Popularity" Dance Rock at its finest.
Brand New - "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" Honest, deep, and challenging.
What are some of the most exciting / your favorite things about playing live? What are some funny stories of things you've seen while playing a gig?
There's nothing better then watching people sing along to your songs. It makes you feel like all the work is actually worth it. As far as stories, Tom and Jon have been known to engage in onstage battles. So far Tom has a perfect winning record.
If you were going to lose your sense of hearing in 24 hours, what would you try to hear during the last 24 hours? Why?
It would be pretty nice to hear that "The Pros and Cons of Redemption" went Platinum. Booyah.
How do you think the music you're creating now differs to that of the music you were making one year ago? Why/how the difference?
We've all been in bands before, but Palaris tries to write songs that are both catchy and musically creative, but with the focus on impacting the listener and getting songs stuck in your head.
What is the very last thing you do before going on stage? Why?
We try to pray before each set, and it happens about 95% of the time depending on how late and rushed we are, but usually right before we go on we get water. I think that's kind of a band standard.
What artists/bands or albums changed your life? Why? How?
"Vheissu" by Thrice has definitely challenged us both musically and in our personal lives. The lyrics are deep and challenge you to think and the music provides a perfect canvas for them. Its definitely inspired all of us to write music that makes a difference in peoples lives.
If you had to boil the lyrics of your new album down to one single theme, what would it be?
The lyrics on "The Pros and Cons of Redemption" talk alot about faith and how living your faith is one of the hardest walks of life. The title comes from the fact that we as Christians like to say that being a Christian is easy and will make your life happier, but we leave out that fact that it also calls us to fight temptation and to refarin from things that are hard to resist. Sin is enjoyable, and thats why its so hard to resist it. So for people looking into giving their life to Christ, its a matter of weighing out the pros and cons and deciding if its worth it. In addition, we have a few songs the provide the pros and cons of dating. Girls are awesome, and they ruin your life.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Booyah

Palaris i have gotten to know through listening to After the Sirens. They are just as awesome. Their live shows are really fun and make you want to dance and i think whats written in their music holds true to peoples lives especially as christians. It is nice to be able to relate to music you listen to. I can truthfully say the guys in this band are pretty cool too and very friendly. They all have awesome hair ;)
