Do you read our "Intern Diaries?" If you do, you might have read this past summer how Frances Schoonveld interviewed Number One Gun. Here is that interview.

Hello?

Hi, is this Trevor?
Yes.

Hi, this is Frances with HM Magazine.
Oh, hi. How ya doing?

Good. How are you?
Good.

Is now a good time for an interview?
Yeah, I think so. We’re trying to get some place to go sound check but how long do you think it will take?

Probably just ten minutes or so. I just have maybe five questions.
OK. Yeah, that’s fine.

OK. Your new CD, Promises for the Imperfect comes out on July 19th. How is this one different than Celebrate Mistakes, lyrically and musically?
Did you say lyrically?

Lyrically and musically.
Well, definitely musically, it’s a lot more mature than the other one. We had two years or more since we wrote the old one. So, the new one definitely is more accurate to how we sound now. And then, lyrically, same thing, the lyrics matured more and Jeff’s definitely come into being lyrically better and everything with touring and everything.

What’s your favorite song on the album? Which one speaks to you the most and why?
One of my favorite ones is “Pretend.” It’s going to be the first song on there and it’s just a fun song to say and one of my favorite ones.

Aaron Sprinkle produced your new album?
Yeah.

How was it working with him and were there any stories or struggles concerning the production of it?
It was one of the greatest experiences working with him. He just really was so much fun to work with and really was just really respective towards us as songwriters and he had some suggestions and stuff but he really did a good job of letting the songs just kinda go where they were gonna go and stuff. And I’m trying to think of a good story here. There was this intercom in the studio and it had a video camera where you could talk to people that were walking around outside. So we used to always do that and screw with people.

You’re going to do a short tour through California soon, right?
Yeah.

What do you hope to accomplish through that tour and what do you look forward to the most?
We just hope to spread the word that we have a new record out and also to just kinda recconnect to people that have seen us over the past few years and let them know we’re still going strong as a band. And show people we have new songs and stuff because it’s been a little while since the other record came out. So to just basically spread the word about the new record is the main thing.

How do you integrate your faith into your art and your music?
Wait. Say that again.

How do you integrate your faith into your art?
Well, we definitely lyrically have some faith based lyrics and stsuff like that, but with a show and everything we go about playing and stuff as just entertainers and performers so it’s more about our everyday lives and stuff like that and kinda more before and after the show and we’re all Christians and have stories about our faith and all that stuff and so I guess in the show its not so much focused on that but its more about we can connect with people after the show and stuff like that and talk to them about it and they can find out theres a deeper meaning behind the band, more than just a surface level, you know, here’s a show and that kinda thing.

Well, that’s all I have, but is there anything else you’d like to add?
I don’t know. I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head.
