Norma Jean [4 of 4]

PART 4 (the last 2,083 words):
I wish that there was some way that we could say, ‘thank you,’ for them. We can, like on the 45-minutes that we’re on stage at night, but I mean we definitely don’t hide behind the stage after or before the show. We’re out there trying to meet as many people as we can that are there to see us and to hear our music and paying the money that they’ve earned to support our band. It’s hard to Imagine. I remember playing for five or six a night and being blow away by that, and now it’s like, 500, 1,000, 1,500 kids sometimes. It’s cool, because it’s been a slow progression, so it’s still, like, not normal to me. You know, I’m not, like, used to it yet. And I hope I don’t get used to it. I don’t every want to become like, to where that to be normal – to where I expect that, and I expect people to buy this and that. That’s not at all what it’s about. We just want to make music so people can get into it and be inspired and encouraged by it, then that’s… I mean, whether it’s 10 people or thousands and thousands of people, it really makes no difference as long as we can stay true to it and stay true to God and do what we feel like He wants us to do, then that’s success. It’s not whether we sell 50,000 records. I don’t want to be concerned about that at all. We just wanna please God through this band. That’s what we’re striving to do.
What are your goals for Norma Jean? Where do you see yourself in five years?
Whoa! That’s such a hard thing, because I know five years ago if somebody would’ve asked me that, I would’ve been clueless as to where we’d actually be. I would’ve never thought that we’d have gone on a couple tours of Europe and all the way around the US and now we have this world tour planned for the Spring of next year and so I have no idea. As far as our goals: my main goal and us as individuals, like, I hope is to please God and to serve God with our lives and our lives to be worship to God. That’s us as individuals, so if that’s true, then that’s going to shine through in the band and also be true of the band. We just wanna, first and foremost, just please God and commit everything we have and we do to Him. As long as that happens, I’ll be happy. Even if we never tour again, if we’re pleasing God, then that’s fine with me. I would like to see this continue on for more years to come and more records and more tours, more good times and more ministry going forth and stuff. I really can’t say that I have any goals, as far as physical things that I would like to see us do. I just take it one day at a time and kinda… Not that we, like, don’t care and don’t have things that we want to accomplish, but I try not to think about that kind of stuff that much, just kinda take it as it comes, you know? Again, so that’s it’s all new to me and that it’s always exciting instead of me like, trying to think, ‘What can we do?’ Not that goals are a bad thing, because they’re for sure not a bad thing, but just try to take it slow and not even really think about it that much.
What’s the most rewarding part of being in Norma Jean? What’s the worst part?
I guess the best part is just getting to make music and play music with my friends. Like, that’s just a crazy thing in itself – like just deciding, “hey, we’re going to write some songs.” And then you do whatever you want. You make up songs. That, to me, is really exciting and just fun. Out of nothing creating songs that potentially thousands of people are gonna get to hear. That’s just really, really exciting. Now that more of us are involved in the writing of the lyrics and stuff like that, that’s also very exciting – just getting to share things that we’ve come up with and share things that you wanna share and that people are going to read and memorize, you know, and be singing along at your shows. That in itself is kind of unbelievable and really awesome. Just getting to tour and meet and make friends and the ministry that goes forth between us and those friends. And also a big part of the ministry is between us and the people that we work with, whether it be the guy that’s recording our record or the bands that we tour with. I mean, I think that’s we’re most a lot … maybe most of our ministry takes place – between us and the people that we’re around more than just like the kids at the shows. The bad things about being in Norma Jean? I don’t know. I can’t really say there’s much bad about being in the band. I don’t know. I’m totally happy. I don’t think I have anything really bad to say about it.

I think that Norma Jean is a cool band. i like to listen to the encoraging lyrics it keeps me strong, it help me in hard times. God has blessed u guys in a big way to be heard all over the world making a difference. Showing other people how God works. God bless Norma Jean!!!
I remember playing pinball with their bassist at Club412 in Ft. Worth TX and these guys just rock and are super cool. I'd sign these guys in a minute. LOL I'll I have to say is keep it core and keep it Godly. That's all a fan or human can reasonably ask. I also think the new music video looks cooler when watching it on the internet because of the lines that occur. It's just crazy!!! J.C.H.C. 4evr
I was really disappointed with "O God the Aftermath" the musical aspect was amazing!!! however, the lyrics were depressing and violent.."insert knife here"...etc. and as a teenager, i don't think a "christian band" as Norma Jean calls themselves is setting a good example. I'm sure they are good guys but if a non christian was listening to their music and reading their lyrics they couldn't tell the difference from a secular band. I'm not bagging on them at all they are a great band..i was just kinda shocked
Matt,
I don't want to sound condescending , but I think you might want to open your mind a little more. God created everything right, including art. You can't seprate the two or any thing else in creation for that matter, however we can and do pervert things. Try to view things in the light of God rather than with preconceived notions or what tradition tells us God or Christianity is or isn't. Not every Christian artist is going to write openly evangelistic or hope inspiring lyrics for every song, simply because we are fallen human beings and life is chaotic at times and we write about real experiences. As far as the "knife" or ".....this blade and my heart" lyrics I'm willing to bet these are metaphoric ways of expressing spiritual truth and/or struggle. Norma Jean is not encouraging viloence. Try reading them again but know that you're not going to understand everything, I know I don't...only the artist does.
