Meet Kissing Cousins
Kissing Cousins is an all-female band from Los Angeles (or Silver Lake if you want to be more specific). Consisting of Heather B Heywood (vocals, guitars), Karo Haro (keys, flute), Melissa Pleckham (bass), Beth Zeigler (drums), and Alexis Woodall (percussion, keys) KC formed in late 2005. Kissing Cousins has previously released 4 consecutive short players : EP1, EP2, EP3, and 'She's Right.' Now comes the band's debut full length 'Pillar Of Salt'! The album's 10 tracks were recorded at The Sons of National Freedom studio in Portland, OR, with wily and irascible Richard Swift at helm as producer. In the age of everyone playing straight into a computer, Swift recorded old school, straight to 2" tape! Swift has stated that "the feel for the songs would be something like the Shangri-Las meets Black Sabbath." After the well received EPs, shows and festival appearances, and a recent song in the show Nip/Tuck, the Cousins are sure to make some well deserved waves with their newest effort. We hope you join their wicked and joyful party.

Superchick Makes A Dream Come True
Superchick surprised their young fan Stephanie Vorm, who suffers from aplastic anemia, at the Nashville Zoo on Saturday, May 30. The band met with Stephanie and her family for a day of fun arranged by the "Make-A-Wish Foundation," an organization that helps grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The eight-year-old's dream was to spend a day with her favorite band, Superchick, whose music played a significant role in getting her through the initial diagnosis and treatment of her illness. Additionally, Superchick was honored to join Stephanie's wish granters, Tracy Bossman and Susie Remelius, in presenting Stephanie with the news that her Wish: To Go to Hawaii to Swim with the Dolphins would soon be a reality. “It was humbling to be part of someone's wish, and our day with the family was so special for us," says Superchick's Tricia Brock. "It's encouraging to know that there are organizations like Make-A-Wish Foundation making a difference in the world one person at a time. Thanks to Make-A-Wish Foundation for involving us - it was a day we won't soon forget.”

Mike Farris On Tour
Soul-stirring rocker Mike Farris releases Mike Farris SHOUT! LIVE, a collection of live recordings from the Sunday Night Shout series at the legendary Station Inn in Nashville. Featuring the McCrary Sisters and the Roseland Rhythm Revue, Mike Farris SHOUT! LIVE captures the energy, power and emotional conviction that has become synonymous with a Mike Farris performance. The album will feature songs from four nights of recording during the fall of 2008 and will be released on both vinyl and CD on April 14th by INO/Columbia records. The Sunday Night Shout series showcases Farris' passionate blend of soul, gospel, American folk, and rock, and it has become a wide-reaching platform for the testimony he preaches through his vibrant music. In his own words Farris says the mission of the Sunday Night Shout is "...To provide musical manna to the hearts, souls, and minds of the good people of Nashville and beyond...Our wish is for every person to leave us on Sundays to go back into the world feeling excited, delighted, and loved." The Sunday Night Shout has become a must-see event in Nashville and will take up residency once again at the iconic venue in March. The selections on Mike Farris SHOUT! LIVE range from vulnerable and mournful to joyful and celebratory, full of struggles and ultimately healing. These intimate recordings feature powerhouse vocals and funky, solid grooves that pull you into the soulful environment of friendship and fellowship. As Farris says, "Church is the people, the music, a warm and comfortable place for humans to connect with each other and with God." The Sunday Night Shout series certainly epitomizes this redefined notion of church, which is undoubtedly why people from all walks of life and all religious backgrounds have found themselves caught up in the spirit and emotion of Farris' music and performance. Like all great artists, Farris transcends boundaries. His career kicked into hyper-drive after a poignant rendition of "Green, Green Grass of Home" at the 2007 Porter Wagoner Tribute during the Americana Music Festival & Conference. In 2008, Farris was named the Americana Music Association's New/Emerging artist of the Year. Music luminaries including Buddy Miller and Marty Stuart are raving about Farris, the former hard rocking frontman for the Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, and his music has been embraced by AAA radio, the Gospel Music Channel and the Americana format. While continuing to blend his rock and folk roots, Farris also found himself drawn to ancient spirituals and sacred songs of old. Driven by his own life experiences, he wanted to capture the strife and struggle for peace that can only be found in what he calls, "Music with dirt on its feet and sweat on its back. Weathered by the elements. Music birthed into this world by the sound of our souls declaring this life for its own!" Combined with his electric stage performances, it is this distinctive and gut-wrenching sound that has turned Mike Farris into an artist with whom so many fans connect. Farris' rousing and spiritual live shows have won over thousands of fans and his reputation as a force of positive energy continues to grow. Farris has again been invited to appear at the Strawberry Festival in Yosemite National Park in May, as well as at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June. This summer Farris will also perform at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival for the second year in a row and in August he will be opening for the incomparable Patti LaBelle at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Mike Farris SHOUT! LIVE offers a taste of this unique live experience and gives listeners a chance to be a part of the undeniable energy and spirit that surrounds Mike Farris.

Showbread News
With the completion of the Showbread's latest album, The Fear Of God, frontman Josh Dies has posted a little reflective blog about the record, along with the new album cover, on the band's website:
We finished our new album last week. Since then I’ve listened to it a half a dozen times and I intend to keep it up. To me, this is easily the best showbread record so far. We went into Anorexia Nervosa with the intention of creating a completely spiritually fueled experience as opposed to a rock album. There was a tremendous amount of work involved in the creation of those albums and their stories and in the end we had something that we truly believed in, something we felt was very different and very unique, and something that touched many people’s lives. What do you do when you finish a double disc, Goth-industrial concept opera with read-along short stories filled with codes and hidden messages? With the band being reborn after several line-up changes and a fresh outlook on everything, the answer was simple: make some Raw Rock. I think a lot of Showbread fans have wanted to hear something with a feeling similar to our first record No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical for a while now. Then there are the people that prefer the less frenetic style we did for Age Of Reptiles and I don’t know, maybe there are some Goth kids who want more industrial music out of us. So what does our new record, The Fear Of God, have in store? This is an intense, passionate record. I think the elements that worked best on our first two albums have really come together to make something unique and edgy. All the emotions are there and coming through really strong, there’s a lot of anger and cynicism and satire, a lot to say about the world, there’s love and spirituality and God and joy… There are songs that affect me deeply as a listener, more so than any other showbread songs, even after so many listens. It’s hard and it’s fast and it’s chaotic and it’s structured and it’s catchy and it’s melodic and it’s emotional and deep and… it’s Raw Rock. Straight up, real as ever Raw Rock. Anyway, with a little ways to go before it finally gets released we’ll be giving updates regularly. We’ve got some fun things cooked up, even a contest or two, and all kinds of ways for everyone to participate and help us out even. In August we’ll be leaving for an extensive tour to bring the new record as well as old favorites, sweat, flashing lights and TV screens and of course: mayhem, to a town near you. But before that we’ll be at Cornerstone festival so come say hello. Thank you and may Raw Rock kill you forever and ever, Amen! -Josh Dies
