Bombworks Records Signs Dark Lay Still
Bombworks Records is happy to announce the signing of Dark Lay Still. Hailing from California, Dark Lay Still plays Scandinavian-influenced symphonic black metal. The band released their original demo, "Joy in the Throes of Agony", in 2004, and then followed that up with a second demo in 2006 titled "Prelude". Both demos were met with critical acclaim in the underground, but the band broke up shortly after the release of Prelude to pursue other side projects. In 2008, the band got back together and began writing new material and now has plans to tour. Combining influences from bands such as Origin, Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, and Crimson Moonlight, DLS crafts melodic lines with crushing black metal riffs, keyboards, insane drumming, and brutal vocals to create powerful face
melting black metal anthems. The band will release their debut in 2009, which will feature several songs updated and rerecorded from the original demos as well as several brand new songs.

MxPx To Play John Spalding Benefit
Beloved Seattle band MxPx is headlining a benefit show for their late comrade John Spalding, guitarist for bands 90 Pound Wuss and Raft of Dead Monkeys. John passed away last month from lung cancer. Both MxPx and John's bands came out of the exciting Pac NW punk scene of the 90s, and as MxPx went on to many international tours and releasing many records. They stayed in touch with John and now wish to help out his widow Jody. She has been left with a great deal of debt from John's illness and MxPx's Mike, Tom, and Yuri wish to contribute to her relief. It should be an amazing reunion night, as MxPx and 90 Pound Wuss were once signed to the same label and have many friends and family in common. Keeping it punk, the show will be held at El Corazon, a venue where MxPx and John had played and attended shows over the years. On The Last Day and Amber Pacific will be opening.

Free Video Download From House Of Heroes
House of Heroes is a four-piece unit from Columbus, Ohio, that is committed to being more than the sum of its parts. They are a band that is about life-changing music. Not scene. Not genre. Not contrived reactions from crowds. They don't want to sound like something else or be like anyone else. This band wants to win over people because of the music they write and the House of Heroes create records where every single note is placed there only if it can be pulled off live. They want their persona to take a back seat to their sound, their fashion to take a back seat to their substance.
Musicians who are playing for-gasp!-the music? Yes. "Serial Sleepers" on the album Say No More available here. The new album, The End Is Not The End available March 3.
Impending Doom Releases New Song
Facedown Records’ Impending Doom are gearing up for the release of The Serpent Servant, out March 31st, by retooling their myspace. Today the band posted the title track from the upcoming album on their myspace. “We’ve broken down the musical boundaries for this album” Guitarist Manny Contreras said, “We’re just playing what we love and bringing together several different genres while staying true to who we are as a band.” Impending Doom has also launched a new myspace layout themed with the new album, designed by PhillM at Sons of Nero. The band is currently out on the road in anticipation of the new record with Unearth, Emmure, and Born of Osiris. They’ll take off again in February with Bleeding Through, The Acacia Strain, and As Blood Runs Black.

Flatfoot 56 To Record New Album
Chicago’s Celtic-punk outfit FLATFOOT 56 will enter Absolute Sound in Houston, Texas on February 1st to begin the recording process for their highly anticipated new album, due out later this year. The as-yet untitled full-length will arrive as the follow-up to the band’s critically lauded 2007 release, JUNGLE OF THE MIDWEST SEA. Johnny Rioux of Street Dogs will take the helm as the album’s producer and engineer.
Throughout their eight-year history, FLATFOOT 56 have consistently delivered an eclectic mix of punk and folk-tinged hardcore to audiences across the globe. Since releasing JUNGLE OF THE MIDWEST SEA on Flicker Records, the boys relentlessly toured the world over both as openers and headliners, sealing their reputation as one of the most exciting, prolific, and energetic bands on the scene today. Over the last 2 years, the band has also continuously written new material, compiling dozens of songs to choose from for the upcoming album. Though they are considering offers, FLATFOOT 56 have yet to decide on a label for the album’s release. The new album will build on the band’s signature style while delving into newly developed and untapped territory of musical growth. Meanwhile, the band is poised for more non-stop touring action as 2009 and 2010 are shaping up to be even busier for FLATFOOT 56. "We are all very excited about the new material,” says singer Tobin Bawinkel. “With the combination of having newer and more mature music, coupled with working with Johnny Rioux as producer, we are expecting to put out a record that not only carries the Celtic traditions we have become known for, but also take what we do in a direction that is harder-hitting and more intelligent.” Beyond Rioux's current role as bassist and one of the musical and creative masterminds behind Street Dogs, he was a fixture in the Boston punk rock scene, playing for The Bruisers and working for some of Boston's best offerings, Dropkick Murphys and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. FLATFOOT 56 will follow-through on their promise to fans to deliver their most exciting body of work to date. “I am fairly certain that all of the fans who have been asking for a new record are not going to be disappointed,” said Tobin. “We have always been a band that wants to make a record that we love to play as well as listen to. We are all excited."

Bassist For StorySide:B Passes Away
Ron McClelland, bassist for the popular Christian recording band StorySide:B, collapsed and died suddenly from an apparent undiagnosed heart condition on January 18th while on a cruise with his wife as part of Jacksonville, Florida’s 88.1 The Promise radio listener appreciation trip. McClelland, who was playing basketball when he lost consciousness, was not able to be revived. He was just 33 years old and is survived by his wife Rebecca. Fellow band member and guitarist Preston Pohl commented on McClelland’s passing. "He's inspired me musically and in every way in life. He wasn't just my best friend; I could definitely consider him my brother. I continue to thank God for Heaven and I believe I’ll see him again, one day.” "He just always walked around with a huge smile on his face and people just absolutely adored the ground that he walked on," said drummer Jordan Mohilowski. "Ron was a man I admired greatly, and I was lucky to call him friend,” said Gotee president Joey Elwood. “Men like Ron always leave a little piece of themselves in the people they touch through their integrity, their honesty, their selflessness, and their joy. That’s where I think many of us will find out solace in the days to come. Ron left a lot of himself for us, made many deposits in our lives and so he'll be missed immensely, but his character will be with us, pushing us to be better, for the rest of our lives." Gotee Records’ Brad Moist commented, “I will always remember Ron’s infectious laughter and big bear-like hugs. Also, something that will always stand out to was how he was a guy who always expressed his appreciation and gratitude for what, we as a label and me as their A&R, did for StorySide:B.”
