I've got to be honest with you. I have some bad habits. I know you think that because I write for this online magazine and play in a well-known rock band that truly believes in the love and mercy of Christ that I have it all together. You may have read my testimony or seen me on TBN, or CBN, or " The Gospel Music Channel."

Ya know a lot of the time that's what I want you to think, " I've got it all together."

I mean, that's what we all want people to think. Well one of my biggest down falls is controlling my mouth. Speaking in the flesh instead of through faith.

One of the first lessons in scripture about speaking is in Genesis - and we see it continue through Revelations. God created our universe through speaking. He said, "Let there be light and there was light. He called the light day and the dark night." He said, "Let there be sky and there was sky. Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place and dry ground appear. He called the ground earth. And it was so."

He continued this process until the earth and the universe were completed, and then He spoke and created man in His own image. He made Adam in the image of Himself and then told him to name the animals.

The three things that I learned from this scripture are:

1. God creates through speaking. He says it and it happens.
2. He names things and that is what they become to everyone else.
3. God created us in His image meaning our words also have power, the words we speak create our world.

That is why Jesus only spoke what He heard from the Father.

Jesus spoke to the wind and it obeyed Him. He healed the paralytic with a word. James tells us the power of life and death is in the tongue. It is like the rudder of a ship that steers our life.

This is an area in life I need to improve in. I truly believe this scripture. I believe that if I will speak according to laws of Gods' Kingdom I can have and do what God says I can have and do. I think that the mission that we have as humans is to speak according to God's desire instead of our own fleshly desire.

So think about it this month as life happens to you. Think about what you have named things and see if they have become what you named them - relationships, people, circumstances and situations. If you are like me you probably have some renaming to do.
See ya next month or come visit me at

All of us have to work continually on developing our spiritual beings. I personally have to work on not letting my past circumstances affect my thought life. Many times, when a person had a very difficult childhood, they can become more sensitive to present situations that remind them of past abuses. That's a challenge that I have to work on occasionally. But that's OK because I know God will help me to overcome. I'll just make the best out of every situation and continue to train myself to focus on the positive. That means watching what I think and say! (Guard Your Heart!) All of us have different areas of spiritual growth or development, no matter who we are! Great Devotional Josh! - Angel NRT

Thanks, Josh. You know what a talker I am, so this was a good reminder about the power of the spoken word. And yes, I'm sure I have some re-naming to do.

Doug,
You probably already know this but our Brother Larry Norman went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning. I got a call very early Sunday morning from his former manager letting me know Larry was home. Larry was the reason I found Christ back in 1973 and I know you thought a lot of him as well. I would to see a great tribute to Larry in your next issue as both he and his music has and will continue to touch the lives of many for generations to come.

Thanks Doug and see you at CornerStone where we usually have chats outside of our RV.
