“In this world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.” – Jesus (John 16:33)

Life is not easy. Life can be very, very tough. Everyone that I know is dealing with some kind of trouble in life; believers and non-believers alike.

All you have to do is turn on the news. There are wars and rumors of wars. There are outbreaks of disease, famine, hurricanes, and earthquakes. There are troubles all over the world. You may look outside your door and see homelessness, racism or drug addiction troubling your streets. You may look in your mailbox and find that you have trouble paying your bills this month. Maybe you’ve just received a troubling call from the doctor giving you bad news about your health. Maybe your troubles have to do with the way you look or the thoughts that you have about yourself and others.

The scripture says that whoever, or wherever, you are in this world, you will have trouble.

I have no problem believing that because I can see the trouble with my own eyes. I experience it daily. It's the next part of that verse that gets me.

Jesus says, “Be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.” That is a heavy statement! Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world?

I am not a genius. I'm not even a high school graduate, but I think God is telling us that there is nothing in this world too big or too small for the creator of the universe to handle. As a matter of fact, Jesus says that he has already overcome the world. Does this mean that when we wake up tomorrow all of our trouble will be gone and our problems will no longer be staring us in the face? No. But it does mean that the face of God is much bigger and more significant than the face of our trouble. It means that we will have victory if we have Jesus. It means that even if things do not turn out the way we had hoped, God is still working out his plan in our lives.

So no matter what you are going through today, and no matter what you go through tomorrow, remember, Jesus already has your back. You were created before the foundations of the world. God has already provided for you and your situation.

Trust on Him, and you will overcome.

Hi Josh,
I found out about your contributing commitment on your dof website, which is my home page as I turn on the computer every day. I want to say I love the intensity of your singing and the vitality of your band's music. I lead worship in church and though it will be some time before we can play your sound of music, I get blessed by it just listening. God bless you.
Thanks for January's article. The scripture is golden because our Lord Jesus said it Himself. He said it so we may hear it. Those who heed it will receive the blessings. So Josh, you are being a great holy messenger in Christ. You write it like you believe it. That will convince many readers, esp. those who look up to you. Love ya. Pfmont.
