The Chariot Lend Their Singer Back To Norma Jean For A Night
Atlanta GA’s The Chariot is having a very productive back to school season. Coming off of a run on Warped Tour, and some festival dates including Purple Door, Icthus Fest, and Cornerstone, they will soon be heading to their first CMJ Festival, playing one of the only heavy music showcases. “Everything we’ve heard about CMJ sounds very exciting, we can’t wait to meet the kids who have been spinning our record on college radio,” tells vocalist Josh Scogin. The band has been very busy in their rare off time over the past month, and before heading to NY for CMJ Scogin, an amateur filmmaker, will begin to film the second and third videos off their recent Solid State debut, The Fiancée, for the songs The Drew Their Swords and Forgive Me Nashville. The videos will be filmed in their hometown of Atlanta, and will, as Scogin says “include many of the concepts touched upon in the album, lots of contradictions and mysteries. We’re planning to make the video for Swords pretty random, with quick shots and a bunch of different scenes, and the video for Nashville to be an ironic, glorified performance video.” The band’s first official music video for the song They Faced Each Other, off of The Fiancée recently premiered nationally on Uranium on Fuse TV, and spent three weeks at #1 on Music Choice! The band has also been working on their own home video series for their Chariot-vision channel on Myspace TV and YouTube. There are now fifteen videos up, documenting the crazy antics of tour life, and all the pranks the band pull on each other, including a pair of shoes set on fire, a TV thrown from the top of an abandoned shack, and a homemade music video to Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys. Scogin explains “We were all pretty much class clowns, and we like to keep everything light-hearted. We just wanted to document some of the silly stuff we do since most of it is completely spontaneous. The videos have been going over pretty well, we often have fans coming up to us, quoting something we said, or telling us that they tried their own ridiculous pranks.” Outside of the film studio, vocalist Josh Scogin has been extra busy. He recently headed to Mexico to help out his former band Norma Jean, whose vocalist got sick at the last minute. This was Scogin’s first time in Mexico, and it was really eye opening. “The kids in Mexico are crazy and really excited about the music, and they were so happy to see me performing with my old band. They were so excited, in fact, that they broke the barricades down when we were performing to try and get to us. We were assigned bodyguards who kept things under control, which seemed pompous, but I have never seen kids come at a band that forcefully. There were even kids waiting for us in the airport when our plane arrived in Mexico City.” Scogin really looks forward to going back with the Chariot, and knowing all of the songs to perform beforehand! “We did twelve songs, only four of which I knew from when I was with Norma Jean, so I had to learn eight songs in a day and half. I was glued to my iPod for the whole time.” The Chariot have been on impressive series of tours themselves in support of The Fiancée over the past few months, with the likes of Misery Signals, The Human Abstract, Norma Jean, and A Life Once Lost, and have toured non-stop the last few years with such diverse groups as High On Fire, Underoath, Throwdown, Every Time I Die, As I Lay Dying and Gwar. The Fiancée has been receiving an overwhelming amount of national acclaim since its release this Spring on Solid State Records when it cracked the Billboard Top 200 it’s first week and landed at #169! Within three weeks the album hit the 12,000 scanned mark and the numbers keep rising. The band was on the cover of the April/May issue of HM Magazine, and received feature coverage in Alternative Press, Decibel, Revolver, Hit Parader, and AMP. A recent issue of Chord praised the Chariot, saying, “The music on The Fiancée is a hulking chunk of nasty and gnarly noise that rips and snorts with the pugnaciousness of a pitbull….It’s full on, full bore from stem to stem, and sounds as if it is recorded live.” Outburn agreed, giving the album a 10 out of 10 review, and said “The Chariot is here to rip the roof off the metalcore scene and shake things up. The Fiancée is a thrilling odyssey of noisy, chunky metal that dares to swim against the current of typical metalcore.” Keep checking The Chariot.com for tour updates and video news.

The Members Of Fono Are Probably Real Good At Quoting Monty Python Lines**
Apparently a couple of the guys in the band Fono are hanging out with the cast of Monty Python's Flying Circus. They've toured with the Goo Goo Dolls and have done a ton of other stuff. Their new album "Too Broken To Break" can be downloaded for FREE on their website. After all, they own it completely. Just go to fono.net and click on the "download Too Broken To Break for free" button. When you get to the page where you can download the songs, do not choose the zip file option. They are a pain to work with. Rather, download each tune from the list. It's GREAT stuff, sounds great, and you'll be singing along in no time. They'll send you an email to thank you and if you get a chance, take them up on their offer to write a quick review.

Spoken's New Album Released This Week
After 2 years, Spoken is back with a new album, a solid touring schedule and contests to get fans excited and talking about the band’s new release. The hard rock outfit from Arkansas has built up a solid fan-base and sales history in their nearly 12 years of touring and recording. This album is one of Spoken’s harder albums musically, but continues to be filled with strong melodies and challenging lyrics that their fans have come to expect. This project, the band’s sixth album ago, gained the coveted “Spoken” title thanks to the album’s writing process. “We wrote these songs to please ourselves, to write songs that we wanted to play live,” explains Jef Cunningham, guitar player for the band. “We ended up with a few that were heavier and harder than anything on the last two records.”
“We wanted to be able to experiment with heavier songs and think further ahead in the lifespan of the band,” continues Matt Baird, vocalist. “And with these heavier songs it really feels like a step toward the future and a reflection of the past.” Check out the band’s ecard which features media, music, tour dates and other information at their ecard. To celebrate the release, they're having a huge contest. Simply log onto the band’s myspace page – and enter for a chance to win prizes including a Paul Reed Smith guitar, a Ernie Ball Prize Pack, Autographed Spoken goods and more. This contest runs between now and October 19th. From now until October 2, the band will be hosting a Meet and Greet after each show. Any person attending the show who has a copy of the new album (either from a pre-order, a retail store or from purchasing at the show) is invited to attend the aftershow. As a special album release incentive, the band is selling the new CD with a special shirt for only $15.

Mainstay Released New Album This Week
With major anticipation and nearly 100,000 downloads at the itunes.com store in one week, Mainstay’s sophomore album Become Who You Are hits retail shelves this coming Tuesday, September 25th. The album also marks the kick-off for major touring as Mainstay performs on the 25 dates of the nationwide acoustic “An Intimate Evening With Jeremy Camp” tour. Radio is responding to Mainstay’s Become Who You Are release as well with the lead single “Believe”, co-written with Mainstay and label mate Camp, debuting at the #30 spot on the CHR charts. The song is currently on the heels of an add at Air 1 Radio. Mainstay has seen prior charting success with their 2006 debut album Well Meaning Fiction and the singles “Take Away” (Top 15 CHR) and “These Pages” (Top 20 Rock). The Jesusfreakhideout.com web site recently gave kudos to Mainstay’s newest musical offering by saying, “undeniably more daytime pop radio friendly, but the honesty and sincerity the guys brought with their debut is what will make this particular pop album stand out from the rest.” Fronted by Justin Anderson, the Minneapolis-based quartet is rounded out by Ryan DeYounge on drums, Dan Ostebo on bass, and Scott Campbell on guitar. Mainstay, originally a punk band practicing out of a garage, refined their sound throughout five years time. Facedown Fest East Coast This Weekend
Facedown Fest East Coast is nearly upon us and as we all wait with bated breath for SEPTEMBER 29th you can go to facedownrecords.com/fest to satisfy your need for ticket information and other news about the Fest including our world class line-up. This is Facedown's 10 year anniversary celebration on the EAST COAST. California had it's chance to celebrate in March and the home state of Facedown Records threw down a sold-out two day energy-soaked festival event. Now we turn to Maryland to see what insanity the East Coast can bring to Facedown's infamous Fest. This is the second year we have taken Facedown Fest to the East Coast, first to Annapolis and now via Bowie, Maryland and we fully anticipate and expect 2007 to be even louder and more action-packed than 2005's rowdy version. Facedown Head Honcho Jason Dunn had this to say about the Fest: "After countless requests from fans and promoters, we have decided to host a second Facedown Fest East Coast. We're looking forward to building on 2005's success with an even stronger line up for 2007. We're really excited about the solidarity these bands have fostered with each other and we can't wait to bring it to the East Coast." What better way to celebrate a birthday than with all of our closest East Coast friends? See you there!

New Demon Hunter Album: Storm The Gates Of Hell
Demon Hunter just wrapped up their new video, "which came out amazing," reports Ryan Clark. "We also just wrapped up all the artwork, which is really complex. There are 3 different versions of the record. And the deluxe edition has a ton of extras and really cool packaging." (When these awesome designers reference some packaging as "cool," I definitely pay attention!).

Hayley Slaps Flirtatious Boy
You know how friends send friends links to check out videos on youtube? This is one of those, pal. It's a video of the song "Kiss Me" (remember that Sixpence None The Richer hit?) by New Found Glory. Unlike last week's enewsletter, which featured quotes about a band from mainstream press and included a swear word (whoops! I missed that one!), this one has the redeeming plotline of a girl not being swayed by the predatory young man in the video (but it is a "secular" music video, so if you're allergic to those, don't go here. Now, whether or not that strawberry blonde is really Hayley or not remains to be seen...

Grey Holiday
San Antonio, Tex.-based, pop/rock band, Grey Holiday’s debut album, The Glorious Revolution, hit stores on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Support for Grey Holiday and its debut release continues to pour in (see media and radio quotes below). “Let Go”, the initial radio single from Grey Holiday, is currently No. 16 on the R&R CHR Chart, and shows no sign of slowing. In conjunction with its street date, the band has also unleashed a brand new website, www.greyholiday.com, which is fully stocked with video blogs, media content, tour dates and more. The exclusive online music video for “Let Go” is viewable by signing up for Grey Holiday’s email update at the website. Through the band’s kinetic style, Grey Holiday drives home its message with a keen sense of urgency. The band members’ passion for life, creativity (both musically and through video) and their firm priority to relationship and community, set them apart. The Glorious Revolutionwas recorded in Nashville and produced by Jason Ingram (Bebo Norman, Rush of Fools). The “Grey Holiday Experience” is quickly having an impact, as evidenced by the following:

“It takes just one encounter with Grey Holiday to prove that life isn’t fair. If it was, this band wouldn’t have so much of the creativity that countless other young bands are lacking and desperately need. Exhibit A? The Glorious Revolution—Grey Holiday’s audio/visual debut. Yes, the new album you have to see and hear.” - Jay Swartzendruber, Editor/CCM Magazine

“I haven't been this impressed with a new band in a long time. Meeting Grey Holiday was awesome for me. The quality of these four guys is as amazing as the quality of their music. Don’t even think ‘one hit wonder’ with Grey Holiday. This band is here to stay.” Mike Schlote, Program Director and Host of “Mike at the Mic in the Morning.”

“The track listing may only include six songs, but like the rock and roll luminaries of yesteryear (think Pink Floyd or Yes), Grey Holiday is also capable of conveying grand concepts and fleshed out feelings of a full-length project no matter what the numeric increment. Though the group may not mirror the same sonic swath as the aforementioned given its alternative/indie rock dichotomy, members do channel a series of modern day British influences, resulting in an arsenal of artistically adventurous and instantly infectious landscapes.” - Andy Argyrakis, Chicago based freelance writer (Chicago Tribune and many more), CCM Magazine contributing editor

“Grey Holiday is passion-infused rock that not only makes you think, but makes you scream for a revolution. Lyrically and musically solid, Grey Holiday's songs encourage heart change while also impacting the soul of the listener. It’s music to ignite a whole new generation of music fans. Finally, the return of true artistry to rock music.” - Amy Sondova, YMExchange.com

“In an industry full of copycat acts, Grey Holiday is a true original. Their songs are energetic, passionate and creative, a must-hear effort.” - Christa Banister, music critic, author and blogger for MTV's URGE.com music service

“If you are looking for an escape from the ordinary, I recommend Grey Holiday. They’re captivating!” - Liz Slater, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, One Praise Magazine

“In the recent spirit of Needtobreathe, comes Grey Holiday, incorporating meaningful, vertical lyrics wrapped in strong, melodic anthems. Definitely one of the stronger debuts of 2007.” - Matt Conner, InfuzeMag.com

The Glorious Revolution delivers six audio tracks, an extended band interview and is loaded with extra content, including three music videos created by the band, a songwriting journal, early song demos, video shorts and much more that introduces the band and brings the “Grey Holiday Experience” to new fans. The Glorious Revolution tracks are as follows: “Glorious”, “Let Go”, “You Belong To Me”, “Where You Want Me”, “Revolution”, “Low”, and “Nigel Interviews Grey Holiday.”

In keeping with Grey Holiday's constant creative state and realizing today's world of fast-paced music consumption, Grey Holiday is the first Essential / Provident artist to deliver, “New Music, More Often.” Recent research indicates that music-buyers want new music on a more regular basis. Fans will have the opportunity to experience Grey Holiday's up-to-the-moment creativity with a second project, also loaded with extra audio and video content, within ten months following the release of The Glorious Revolution. Both projects will showcase the audio and video ingenuity this band offers, delivered “hot off the press.”

Grey Holiday is: Matt Minor – lead vocals, guitar, keys; Steven Bedingfield – guitar, electronic programming, background vocals; R.T. Bodet – bass, background vocals; and Josh Fenoglio – drums, background vocals.

Maylene Rocks Video #2
Dynamic, Birmingham, AL hard rock band MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER has completed work on the second music video from its critically acclaimed new album "Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: II". The video -- for the barnstorming MAYLENE track "Darkest of Kin" -- was shot on location at Hurley Studios in California by Director Soren (Deftones, Kyuss, ALOL / A Life Once Lost) the day following the band's final live appearance as part of the 2007 VANS Warped Tour. The "Darkest of Kin" clip features MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER performing its hundred proof hit while skateboarding cult heavyweight Steve "Le Machine" Alba and a slew of "old school pool skaters" cut it up in the background. The high energy video is expected to make its world television and viral online premiere(s) imminently. "Darkest of Kin" can be heard online at this location. "Darkest of Kin" and more music from MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER is also prominently featured in the new Hurley short surf film, "Sound & Vision Vol. 1". Set to premiere across the globe via live webcast this Saturday, September 15 as part of the "Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley", "Sound & Vision Vol. 1" is the first in set of short surf films under the company’s “Sound and Vision” quarterly series. With over 600,000 people anticipated to watch this year’s live webcast of the "Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley", the worldwide launch for Hurley’s “Sound and Vision” series is expected to be the largest surf film premiere in history. In addition to the exclusive webcast during the contest (which takes place in Lower Trestles, CA), Hurley is hosting ten satellite viewing events around the country, two of which incorporate the ‘jumbotrons’ at the Pier in Huntington Beach, CA and the City Walk in Orlando, FL. The first film to lead the series, "Sound & Vision Vol. 1" follows young Australian surfing talent Yadin Nicol, as he sets his sights on the World Championship Tour. Featuring music by MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER, the film captures Yadin as he surfs with his closest peers and lends insight into what makes him tick, from the waves to the local watering hole. Each subsequent 15-20 minute “Sound and Vision” episode will profile Hurley personalities and team riders, including rising star Yadin Nicol, international favorite Rizal Tanjung, surf icon Rob Machado, and multi-talented Tim Curran, among others. The “Sound and Vision” film series will give fans a look inside the exciting and dynamic worlds of Hurley’s leading athletes, documenting the sights and sounds from incredible locations like Bali, Australia and Africa, and everywhere in between. The growing ties between the professional surfing and skateboarding landscape and fast-rising band MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER does not end there, however, as the popular MAYLENE anthem "Memories of the Grove" has been added to the epic soundtrack to the forthcoming Activison skateboarding game "Tony Hawk's Proving Ground". MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER appear on the platform's soundtrack alongside lionized artists such as !!!, Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, Bloc Party, Foo Fighters, Nirvana and The Sex Pistols. "Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground" is scheduled to be available in stores everywhere this fall. MAYLENE and the SONS of DISASTER features vocalist Dallas Taylor, guitarists Josh Cornutt, Josh Williams and Scott Collum, bassist Roman Haviland and drummer Lee Turner. The band will hit the road again this fall with fellow heavy hitters Underoath and Every Time I Die. A full listing of upcoming MAYLENE tour dates follows this message. Tour information will be made available via the band's online domains:

Here's some press quotes:

"There's no whiskey factory large enough to hold this sucker. It's Derek Trucks discovering his inner Mastodon. It's Lamb of God suddenly trading in metalcore for .38 Special." - LAS VEGAS CITY LIFE

“It's Lynyrd Skynyrd that will liquefy your innards. Some call it Kentucky Fried Hardcore. One thing is certain: The band's latest album, "II," is a blast of summer headbanging that goes down like the finest moonshine.” - IDAHO STATESMAN

“If Lynyrd Skynyrd had a hair up their butts and were more generally pissed-off than Slayer, they’d sound a whole lot like Birmingham, Alabama’s Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.” - LA CITYBEAT

“A menacing, stentorian sound of ’70s boogie rock gone Southern metal” - ORLANDO WEEKLY

“Armed with songs that regularly perform shotgun weddings between stoner rock and old-school metallic boogie.” - DENVER WESTWORD

"furious...the concept is not restricted to Taylor's lyrics. The album's layout re-creates the fatal shootout that claimed Ma Barker's life, featuring images of the band, riddled with bullet holes, slumped over in chairs and spread out across a small cabin's floorboards." - MTV NEWS

"One of 2007's 'Bands You Need To Know" - ALTERNATIVE PRESS

"II expands the band’s sound with a forceful metal sound that compliments Taylor’s growls. The result is a fantastic album that shoots straight for every Southern boy’s heart, full of aggressive and catchy hooks that have too long been missing from more noise-obsessed metal bands, and a unique message informed by a deranged obsession with one of the south’s most infamous group of outlaws." - BIRMINGHAM WEEKLY

“Maylene and the Sons of Disaster proved they were on to something potentially cool, and they follow that up in very confident fashion on their new album… we can’t help but hope Maylene and the Sons of Disaster continue trudging through hard rock’s backwoods” – POPMATTERS

“For their sophomore release, Maylene gets conceptual, channeling the chilling tale of prohibition-era gangster Ma Barker into a hard-driving Southern rock record. On II, the group produces jarring, fearless metal and thunderous rock as they unleash a virtuous, three-guitar fury with a refreshingly strong lyrical narrative.” – CMJ

“Conceptually inspired by the Depression-era Ma Barker Gang, ‘II’ hits getaway-car speed with mid-album crunchers like “Darkest of Kin” and “Raised by the Tide.” The bullet-riddled balladry of the discs’ latter third may bring these boys down in the end, but it’s still one helluva ride.” – REVOLVER

“This is music steeped in Southern traditions, yet modern enough to bring them into the new millennium. Maylene's latest goes so full-immersion into the legend of one of the early 20th century's most notorious citizens that it sometimes seems possible that the ghosts of Ma Barker and her sons are lurking in the grooves.” – THE HARTFORD COURANT

"MAYLENE come across as a dirty southern rock band playing to their hardcore and metallic roots / strengths; vocalist Dallas Taylor's better at being screamy and doing the raspy AC/DC holler, the rhythm section is as tight as the Daytona 500 starting grid and they write (bleep) monstrous choruses...like a more youthful RAGING SLAB or DOWN, courtesy of a huge-sounding tri-axe attack." - METAL MANIACS

“For polished boot-stompin' stonerboogie, this album is pretty damn spot on and puts to shame, say, Black Label Society's one-trick ponyisms.” - DECIBEL

"a tasty platter of southern-tinged hard rock strut and metallic boogie that succeeds both for its blazing riffs and memorable songwriting...an ambitious effort on which the sounds and the story weave together into an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable whole...gripping" – BLABBERMOUTH

“MAYLENE, comprised of Dallas Taylor (vocals), Lee Turner (drums), Roman Haviland (bass), and Scott Collum, Josh Cornutt, and Josh Williams (guitars), have taken concept albums to a new level by not only telling the story of Ma Barker but taking on the role of her gun-slinging sons.” – THE AQUARIAN WEEKLY

"the triple guitar attack is just colossal...II is a top-notch southern rock/metal effort. This album goes above and beyond any expectations that may have been set. MAYLENE is easily going to make themselves known in the rock and metal community with this release." - DECOY MUSIC

“heavy metal meets history as the songs are inspired by the prohibition era mayhem of Ma Barker and her boys.” – POSITIVELY YEAH YEAH YEAH

Nothing More Worth Checking Out
Don't know how often you get out to check out up and coming bands, but one you may want to look up is Nothing More out of San Antonio (nothingmore.net). They've been touring non-stop for about two years. Were selected to play at Sammy Hagar's club/festival somewhere down in Mexico, Cabo San Lucas?? American Idol's band contest brought them to Vegas to compete (one of 60 in the nations selected). Supposedly Tina E loved them but the other two judges weren't impressed. Maybe it was because the kick drum broke in the middle of their second song. I saw them in Houston and also saw for the first time a non-headlining band was asked to do an encore, the sound man kicked them off the stage but the club owner brought them back on. They are turning out to be what I like to call an "undercover Christian band."

More news from last week:

Far-Less Has A Dash In Their Name
This October, powerhouse rock ‘n’ roll sextet Far-Less will release their sophomore album “A Toast To Bad Taste” (Tooth & Nail Records). Determined to shake up the unimaginative pseudo-aesthetics of their indie and pop peers, Far-Less have crafted a sophomore album that single-handedly destroys the notion of the "sophomore slump" in one swift move. Produced by Mike Green (Paramore, The Matches), "A Toast to Bad Taste" (in stores everywhere on October 23) boasts a complex sense of confidence, like a deftly inspired blend of Muse, Dredg, Brand New and the most ethereal of shoe-gazer pop, with some Foo Fighters thrown in for good measure. Despite a handful of setbacks, a remote locale, and the increasing mediocrity of the indie rock scene, Far-Less has triumphed against the odds with "A Toast To Bad Taste," and the rock world is hereby put on notice. Sounding unashamedly modern while retaining a foot in the 90s heyday of Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden, Far-Less have fully come into their own from their humble Virginia beginnings. "Virginia has everything to do with who I am as a musician and a person," Far-Less singer Brandon Welch says thoughtfully. "Lots of quiet time with beautiful scenery. You tend to make lifelong friends in a place like this, which is awesome. Music seemed to be my only way to get out of here. As long as I can remember, I wanted to play music." And beyond that, Welch and his band mates - Jordan Powers (guitar/vocals), Mark Karsten (guitar), Joseph Powers (bass), Elizabeth Pina (keyboards), and Todd Turner (drums) - set out to make music that is relevant, honest and powerful. And they have succeeded. "The best part about music is when it makes you feel something, when it moves you," says Welch. It was with that in mind that Welch wrote the first song for the new Far-Less album, a track called "So Glad," which gave him the idea for the record's title, "A Toast to Bad Taste." "It's an album about the things that bring us down. The things in our society that hold us back and the people in our lives that show no respect or love for us, or anyone. It's the most personal piece of art I have ever been involved with," he explains.

A Letter To The Editor Type Of Thing...on Family Force 5
I'm not sure if any info. has ever been posted on their website or any other sources, but I found out something tonight, something where a strange puff of smoke came from my brain. This happened to me after reading the latest HM email. I had heard/read their actual names countless times, but for some reason something inside of me went I wonder if...Yeah, I guess it was true, all three brothers from Family Force 5 were in a group together in the mid-90's that was managed and produced by their dad Jerome Olds. Their name was simply: The Brothers. They put out two albums on Star Song Records: Fact & Reality (1994) and R.P.M. Maybe a few people already knew this, but I thought it was quite funny. I was born in 1980, so I was 14 when their first album came out. I bought it because I've always liked music of all styles and genres, even stuff that now I laugh at. I think at time time it was as though it was supposed to like a Christian "alternative" to Kriss-Cross, although they dressed a lot more preppy for the most part. I like cheese sometimes almost as much as classic. I just thought it would be funny to send the links to reviews I found and maybe you could send this out in your next email. I know there are probably a few HM readers who are younger than me, it seems strange when I seem old for 27!

Falling Up Guilty Of Wasting Ice Blocks!
In preparation for their upcoming third studio release, Captiva, alternative rockers Falling Up will be hitting the road this week for “The Captiva U.S. Tour” featuring This Beautiful Republic, The Send and A Dream Too Late. The tour will begin on September 7th in Knoxville, TN and conclude on October 8th in Oklahoma. Captiva (BEC Recordings) will hit consumers’ hands on October 3rd. "This fall tour will be unlike any other for Falling Up,” shares lead vocalist for Falling Up Jessy Ribordy. “Not only will we be playing new material from our upcoming album (Captiva), but our show will be more exciting than any previous tour. I really feel like we accentuate the extremes of our music during this set, and we are so excited to present The Captiva U.S. tour to every single person that comes out." Captiva is a three-dimensional, dynamic exercise that captures the strengths of their first two records while introducing a deeper, more profound element to the music. Running the gamut from the metaphorical to the candid, the lyrical content of Captiva is multi-faceted and dynamic, paralleling the sonic qualities of the record. The airwaves have played a major role in shaping the impact of Falling Up and promises to play an even larger role in the influence of Captiva. “Hotel Aquarium” will undoubtedly serve as one the year’s most influential singles already shooting up to No. 3 on the Rock chart before the album’s release. Hailing from Albany, Oregon, Falling Up transformed into a full-time musical project after graduating high school in 2002. The act quickly made its first impression in the national music scene with its Aaron Sprinkle-produced debut, 2004’s Crashings. Following the release, the band embarked on a steady stream of tour dates (with over six tours and 400 shows in a two-year span) establishing a strong, loyal fan base. In October 2005, Falling Up came back with an astounding new studio release steering clear of the sophomore slump with Dawn Escapes, which surpassed all expectations. Last fall, the band mixed it up with the release of the band’s hits on the remix album Exit Lights.

Knockout Kings Part Of Emo Diaries Series
In 2004, Deep Elm Record's legendary compilation series THE EMO DIARIES unofficially came to rest as the longest running compilation series in the history of indie rock with its tenth chapter and a total of 135 unreleased songs. Deep Elm cited the bastardization of the term "emo" in today's pop culture, as well as mainstream's stranglehold and subsequent commercialization of the genre, which placed the focus squarely on the aesthetic...not the music, the energy or the passion. Essentially, Deep Elm refused to play the game and closed the doors on the genre they helped to document, nurture and expose to the world. But this is 2007 and Deep Elm is TAKING BACK WHAT'S OURS. The Emo Diaries, CHAPTER 11 features Exclusive and Unreleased songs from KNOCKOUT KINGS (Keller, Texas), Above Them (England), This Drama (Spain), While You Were Gone (Houston), Andy Tanner & His Grand Piano (Colorado Springs), The Crash Engine (Portland), The Decoration (San Francisco), I'm Fashion, You're Victim (England), Young Hearts (Brooklyn), The City Beautiful (Netherlands), My Awesome Compilation (England) and Panel (Wales). Absolutely Essential.

Underoath Keeps On Going
Following a successful run of high profile shows in the U.S.--as a main stage headlining act on this year’s Vans Warped Tour--as well as overseas, UNDEROATH have extended their fall headlining run through November. The trek will take the band through 37 cities, kicking off September 22 in Houston. High profile stops include The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Friday, October 5 and the Nokia Theatre-Times Square in New York City on Wednesday, October 24. Renowned for their experimental and frenzied live performances, the critically acclaimed sextet--lead vocalist SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, guitarist TIM MCTAGUE, bassist GRANT BRANDELL, drummer AARON GILLESPIE, keyboardist CHRISTOPHER DUDLEY and guitarist JAMES SMITH--will bring a unique stage and lighting set up for a one-time-only concert experience highlighting the group’s juggernaut gold-certified third album DEFINE THE GREAT LINE (Tooth & Nail/Solid State). The fall trek will be filmed for a live concert and documentary DVD, release date is tbd. UNDEROATH’s powerful live show was hailed by the Providence Journal on their Vans Warped Tour run: “Underoath were the headliners-a Florida-based metalcore band with punishing bass and drums, crunching guitar, occasional odd keyboard whooshes and a horror-movie tinge to singer Spencer Chamberlain’s delivery that all give the religious themes of the lyrics universal appeal.” (Providence, RI--August 10, 2007)
The group continues to evolve with a wave of recognition for their progressive sounds coupled with soon-to-be legendary performances:
“[The Define The Great Line disc] proved to be one of the most innovative and wrenching in recent heavy music history. The eleven tracks boast the chug-chug of darker strains of hardcore, the screeching riffs of classic metal, and jarring passages of expansive ambient. The rhythm section is wildly propulsive, but the mix also includes the skittering, burbling synth fills of keyboardist Christopher Dudley. Then there are Chamberlain's vocals, both jarring and nuanced. He's a striking physical presence, as well--slight, with shoulder-length dark hair and a patchwork of impressionistic tattoos. He could be Anthony Kiedis's underfed kid brother. Which is why the howling modulations he coaxes from his voice box are so startling. Chamberlain can deliver a piercing peal of notes, then suddenly shift gears to a bottom-of-the-belly growl that induces goosebumps. “
--Arielle Castillo, MIAMI NEW TIMES (Miami, FL, 3/15/07)

“The trials and tribulations of Underoath have been many...But these have only galvanized the remaining members, and contributed to their development as one of the most dynamic hardcore bands. The fact that they’re part of the Christian metal scene is beside the point--these guys deal in progressive cathartics that place faith as but one (albeit the most important) dimension.”
--T.E. Lyons, LEO WEEKLY (Louisville, KY, 5/17/07)

”The sextet had a level of energy onstage that would go unmatched the rest of the night as they blazed through hits like ‘In Regards to Myself,’ ‘Writing on the Walls’ and ‘A Moment Suspended in Time.’ Those tracks helped their most recent [Define The Great Line] album sell more than half a million copies. Front man Spencer Chamberlain and drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie took turns firing off vocals while the trio of guitars battled it out. But nobody was as crazy as keyboardist Chris Dudley. Even in the parts of the songs that didn't involve his instrument, Dudley engaged with the crowd and danced like he was engulfed in flames.”
--Matt Wilkinson, DAILY 49er (Long Beach, CA--Cal State Long Beach, 3/22/07)

“Considering the sound--hardcore metal smelted down with the soaring melodies of emo--one might argue that Underoath wants to put some of the fear of God back into faith. Anyone who's seen, say, the Reaper's tomb inside St. Peter's Basilica or the frowning-down popes of Siena's Duomo will have no trouble understanding hellfire-and-brimstone metal as an analogue to those artifacts. Both are meant to project beauty and terror. And there's no reason a Christian metal show can't be enjoyed like any metal show--as high-wattage, cathartic fun.”
--Sean Piccoli, SUN SENTINEL (Ft. Lauderdale, FL, 5/18/07)

“[Define the Great Line] added melody and more dynamics without sacrificing the intensity of the sextet's metal-hardcore hybrid. Nothing, however, compares to the band's writhing live performances.”
--METRO TIMES (Detroit, MI, 3/2/07)

“a heady blast of Radiohead-damaged screamo jams.”
--CITY PAGES (Minneapolis, MN, 3/4/07)

“…when all six members of Underoath cranked up the loud last night, I was unexpectedly moved. Officially, half of Underoath are singers, but twiggy frontman Spencer Chamberlain does the most wailing. And somehow, even when his screams are garbled, whatever pain, frustration or hope (‘pull yourself together, man’) that he’s communicating comes out true. This is a rare thing in a genre full of aggressive emotion that too easily turns cliché. Sonically, Underoath’s music is about as grind heavy as it gets, except when Gillespie chimes in from behind his drumkit with a particularly melodic chorus. Chris Dudley’s keyboard work aids in the accessibility factor. But even when the songs last night were chaotic, there seemed to be something unseen that the musicians--and capacity crowd--held onto.”
--Crystal Wiebe, THE PITCH (Kansas City, MO, 3/10/07)

“The majority of the kids in the crowd were incredibly excited to see them [Underoath]. It was all for good reason—the band have really mastered their live stage presence and know how to make a deep, strong impact on the crowd. They played a wide span of songs spanning their new album and a couple from their old (though no “Reinventing Your Exit”) and were loud, energetic, and noisy. Once again, Underoath have proven to me that they are one of the tightest, vigorous rock bands in the scene, and I can only hope they will continue to see the success a genuine band deserves. They alone were worth coming to the show for.”
--Andrew Martin, EMOTIONALPUNK.COM (6/07)

“Next up was the strongest act of the night, Underoath. Playing a set that was surgically precise in nature, Underoath walked a fine line between well-trod tracks off 2004’s They’re Only Chasing Safety and their newer, more atmospheric material on new LP Define the Great Line. Expansive and stark, the newer songs show a maturity well beyond most of Underoath’s peers.“
--Mark Hensch, ANTIMUSIC.COM (6/07)

“…rip-snorting, power-chord-chugging Christian metalcore.”
--CLEVELAND FREE TIMES (Cleveland, OH, 8/1/07)

“…hard rock has given way to blends of emo, hardcore and metal, opening the door for a melodic metalcore band such as Underoath to seize the stage. Its incendiary live show probably makes a difference. And while you might be surprised to discover a keyboardist in a hardcore act, doubts dissipate watching Dudley bang his blond locks and pound the keys…”
--Chris Parker, CREATIVE LOAFING (Atlanta, GA)

UNDEROATH’s video for their new single “A Moment Suspended In Time”-- lensed by the avant-garde Swedish production team Popcore--will officially debut today Monday, September 10 on both “Ovenfresh” and “Steven’s Untitled Rock Show” on Fuse. In other news, the FL-based sextet’s first-ever DVD 777 has already moved over 20,000 copies so far in it’s first month of release. Revolver magazine heralded in a **** star review, ”The jam packed disc includes on and off stage clips from Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos, Bamboozle, several world tours, home videos and the band’s 06 ‘MySpace Secret Show.’ While you won’t find any scenes of drunken debauchery, this widescreen view of the band does prove that good clean fun can, indeed, be just that: fun.” While Alternative Press hailed the disc as essential for hardcore fans and newcomers alike, “This DVD chronicling the band’s tours over the past two years isn’t just fun to watch-it’s essentially a virtual ‘talk to the hand’ in the face of your poseur neighbor.”
