HM Magazine Stage To Rock Purple Door This Weekend
As the countdown to Purple Door 2007 begins, the east coast’s premier alternative arts and music festival is pleased to announce the winners of the Mono Vs Stereo New Band Showcase and the Warehouse 54 Battle of the Bands competition, as well as highlight the changes and additions to this year’s Art Gallery.
HM Magazine Stage (Saturday, Aug 18):
10:00 AM The Wedding
10:40 AM Inhale Exhale
11:20 AM August Burns Red
1:25 PM The Devil Wears Prada
2:15 PM The Chariot
3:05 PM Haste the Day
4:00 PM Norma Jean

In its third year, the Mono vs Stereo New Band Showcase welcomes entries from unsigned bands across the country who would like a shot at performing on the Gallery stage on Friday night of the Festival. Interested bands submitted a three-song demo cd, along with a band bio for consideration and a panel of industry judges chose the top three most promising acts. This year’s winners are: After the Sirens from Wenham, MA, The Apathy Eulogy from Baltimore, MD and Cabot, AR-based After the Tragedy. Warehouse 54 in Manheim, PA hosted a regional Battle of the Bands competition to find the band most worthy of filling the coveted opening slot on main stage Friday night. Three separate competitions were held and the top two bands from each competed in the finale competition. A combination of panel judges and audience votes were tallied to determine the ultimate winner. Between The Two, hailing from Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, soared past more than 25 other bands in the competition and will be kicking off Purple Door 2007 on Friday night. “We are very pleased to partner with Mono vs Stereo for the third year and Warehouse 54 for the first time, to help cultivate young talent and give artists the ability to showcase their musical ability,” expresses Timothy Eddings, festival program director. “Purple Door is an excellent place for bands to hone their performance skills, expand their fan base and gain knowledge from the nationally known acts participating in the event and we feel privileged to be a part of this important step in their career.” With the goal of encouraging and developing all types of artistic abilities, Purple Door also features an eclectic Art Gallery where both young and emerging artists can use their talents as a careful, well-considered expression through various visual media, as the artist relates to the surrounding world at large. For the 2007 event, the Art Gallery will feature the work of five main artists, Ben Volta, Will Stichter, Matt Neff, Christopher Van Auken and Timothy Hoover. Continuing with tradition, Purple Door has also accepted entries from local and regional artists. A new addition for this year, all Festival attendees will be able to participate in the creation of a 3D art structure that will grow and transform throughout the day as both artistically-minded and interested people can easily involve themselves in this project. The Art Gallery will also feature experimental and ambient music from the band Soporus and multi-media musician, Steve Hoffman. Chris Strayer, festival producer, explains, “The Art Gallery is an integral part of Purple Door. We not only want to encourage musical talent, but creative and artistic abilities take on many forms and we strive to showcase those as well so that others are inspired to embrace their own God-given talents.” Purple Door Arts and Music Festival will be held at Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry, PA, August 17 – 18, and will feature three stages of performances from some of the hottest bands impacting the music scene today, as well as an art gallery, skate park, paint ball and top speakers from across the country. Artist slated to perform at the 12th Annual event include: mewithoutYou, Relient K, Anberlin, Haste the Day, Norma Jean, As Cities Burn, Colour Revolt, Denison Witmer, Red, The Devil Wears Prada, Derek Webb, Family Force 5, Leeland, and Cool Hand Luke, as well as local favorites August Burns Red, Kheris and Farewell Flight. The Chariot Hit YouTube
The Chariot has launched their own Chariot-vision channel this week on youtube.com. The band has posted a whole series of videos on YouTube, seven episodes in total including live footage from their performance at Cornerstone IL, and deleted scenes from their travels on the headlining tour with The Human Abstract and Misery Signals leading up to Cornerstone. The deleted scenes detail the crazy antics of tour life, and all the pranks the band pull on each other, including a pair of shoes set on fire, a TV thrown from the top of an abandoned shack, and a homemade music video to Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys. The Chariot will continue to post videos on the site over the course of the next few weeks. The band’s first official music video for the song They Faced Each Other, off of their new full-length, The Fiancée just premiered nationally on Uranium on Fuse TV. They will be shooting their second video, for Forgive Me Nashville, in the next few weeks. The Fiancée has been receiving an overwhelming amount of national acclaim since it’s release this Spring on Solid State Records when it cracked the Billboard Top 200 it’s first week and landed at #169! Within three weeks the album hit the 12,000 scanned mark and the numbers keep rising. The band was on the cover of the April/May issue of HM Magazine, and received feature coverage in Alternative Press, Decibel, Revolver, Hit Parader, and AMP. A recent issue of Chord praised the Chariot, saying, “The music on The Fiancee is a hulking chunk of nasty and gnarly noise that rips and snorts with the pugnaciousness of a pitbull….It’s full on, full bore from stem to stem, and sounds as if it is recorded live.” Outburn agreed, giving the album a 10 out of 10 and 10 review, and said “The Chariot is here to rip the roof off the metalcore scene and shake things up. The Fiancée is a thrilling odyssey of noisy, chunky metal that dares to swim against the current of typical metalcore.”
